Welcome to Episode 5 of The Dining Traveler Cooking Series where we recreate dishes from our favorite destinations. This episode is a family affair. We're headed to The Netherlands, where my husband Martin is from to make Oliebollen. Oliebollen are made during the holidays but given the current state of affairs, I convinced Martin to do a "New Year's in May" celebration.
This is Martin's Oma's Oliebollen recipe and one of my favorite things that he makes in our home (must add that he's an amazing cook).
We're missing our family and friends in Holland and biting into a warm oliebol brought us a bit closer to home.
Recipe for Oliebollen:
- 750g (3 ¾ Cups) of Flour
- 40g (3 ¼ Tbsp) of Active Dry Yeast
- 3/4 L (3 ¼ Cups) of Lukewarm Milk
- 2 Egg Yolks
- 50g (¼ Cup) of Sugar
- 15g (1 Tbsp) of Salt
- 40g (3 ½ Tbsp) of Melted Butter
- 350g (1 ¾ Cups) of Raisins
Detailed instructions are in the video.
Next week we're headed to Mexico! Guess what we're making?
