I have to make this for my husband who has a love hate relationship with seafood. Only eats seafood deep fried, but he loves a good clam chowder when we were in Boston.(UPDATE)..Made this tonight with 2 big cans of clams from Walmart and husband& kids loved it. It wasn't fishy which my husband is super sensitive to and the half&half cream makes taste so yummy. I added salt & pepper to taste and it was perfect. I have finally mastered one soup my husband likes, thankyou🤗

Im from Jersey and we go clamming a few times a year so yes, I am shucking my own clams and using fresh clam broth. 🤷🏻♀️😂 But also I get it. I too would buy the canned and bottled stuff if we don’t go clamming out here.

I made this last night and it was such a hit. I was astounded how thick the soup was, and using the bacon and a little of the grease really pumped up the flavor. Because we had a left over seafood boil, I added shrimp and crab, as well. It is such an easy recipe, that I will consider it my go-to for all my chowders!! My son said it was the best he's ever eaten, and wondered if he should have a 3rd bowl! lol. I'll be looking at your other recipes. Thanks!

I love clam chowder, too. Milk/creme? Probably some heavy creme, or half n half. It's a rich soup. Pour in your favorite dairy product. My recipe is very similar to this one but with more bacon and because I love corn, I add frozen corn. It sweetens the chowder and adds color. A couple dashes of Tabasco sauce and a pinch of thyme, grinds of pepper and we're done. I let it simmer a bit to thicken. Chopped parsley on top. Little oyster crackers. Mmm Mmm! It's the corn.

I forgot there is sandy grit in clams. Thanks for the reminder. Perhaps after pouring out the juice from the cans, you could run the clams under water to rinse out the sand. That's what I would do before I include the clams in the soup base. Happy New Year!

No carrots in the New England. Freeze your fresh chowder clams.....put them in a big bowl after 3 hours they will open, use a clam knife and scoop the clams out and chopped them. put the juice on the side for later. You could still use some minced clams, but the heart of the flavor of the chowder is fresh clams. Again no carrots in the New England.
