keep the blue tape when doing the spline glue up, the excess will drip on the tape and make sanding wayy easier

Yes! I have no idea why I didn't think of that.... Thanks!

I said it as soon as I saw you take the tape off too because I’m messy

Nice frame. I’ve been making picture frames for years. All made by hand. Can’t wait till I can purchase a table saw to make the mitres.

Thankyou! Yes, the table saw certainly makes it all much faster, although not sure there is anything better than a truly hand made picture frame not using power tools.

That frame has joined the dark side. Great video mate, you did an epic job on the crossstitch too! :D

Haha I wish I thought of that when I chose the black stain! I sadly can't take credit for the cross stitch skills. That's a friend who does those.

Would have liked to see how you fitted the piece into the frame! Also a frame with glass would be nice :) +1 for the framing jig when you get time, I am using my aftermarket mitre gauge for this but it can be a bit tricky

Cheers! to put the piece in the frame i just used a couple of brad nails lightly pushed into the sides. It sounds a bit dodgy, but I find it works a treat. I must admit I've been tempted to get some sheets of perspex to put in the front to see how that goes, but yeh glass would definitely be better. I will remake both the frame jig and spline jig eventually as they are two of my favourite jigs, but its a bit down the list as I have so much else I need for the garage first. Sorry!

@MelbourneMaker turned out nice. Love the cross stitches! Did you make them or someone else? Very tidy stitches! I know from personal experience that would have been time consuming. You said a good tip for leaving the tape on while cutting. Take it one step further...leave it on for easy glue clean up. I have not seen all your videos yet...if you don't already have it I highly recommend you invest in a good router table. That will make rabbets easier and allow you to make fancier frames. Yours is sturdy and certainly does the job. You can trim off excess material on the corners and seal the material with super glue to avoid frayed edges. This will allow the for easier placement of a backer board if you used one. I miss cross stitching...my stupid arthritis won't tolerate the needle long enough.

Thankyou! The cross stitch was done by a good friend and was a gift now hanging on my wall. For the tape you are spot on! Saves so much clean up. Not sure why I took it off before putting the splines in, I normally leave it on for the glue up. Good old brain fade at its finest! I don't have a router table yet, just finished building a workbench finally, and in the process of making a table saw cabinet that I've designed to eventually have a router lift in it.... But I'm not quite at that sort of level of expertise as yet. I haven't had a lot of experience mounting cross stitches, so was a bit worried to start cutting and gluing in case I needed to redo it. Since doing this one, I've since started using double sided tape, and actually works quite well. Thanks again for the support :)

@@MelbourneMaker there are three makers you should check out for the router tables...all easy for us amateurs. DIYMontreal, 3x3 custom Tamar and Stumpy Nubs. There's many on here but those are some of my easy to follow favourites. You should also check out a recent 6 jigs video from Izzy Swan...I'm making them soon...wish I already had them!

I need to know how to make the sled you used! Most people on KZitem use aluminium framing squares, but all I can get is metal ones...

Yeh it's definitely on the list of videos to do. One of my favourite jigs I've made to date. Sadly it's probably a little down the list as there are so many things I actually need that remaking a jig is a time luxury I don't have right at the minute. I'll try and bump it up the list though. Cheers

Very nice looking frame there and some nice jigs. I'd definitely look at making a zero clearance insert so there is support on the inside when making those splines as well as a sacrificial push stick (that's not plastic).

Thanks! Yes, both of those are on my to do list. Zero clearance will make doing the fine work so much easier on that saw. Cheers!

Great video, with a lot of good sound advice. Just to reiterate, I would be very careful cutting those splines the way you do. Kick back is not a lot of fun, and I speak from experience on this one. Either way, you've made a frame that is way better than some of the store bought crap out there. By the way, it was great meeting you at the meetup. 👍

Yes, it was great to meet you as well. I will eventually get one of those rockler thin rip jigs to cut splines and such. Look forward to seeing you at the next meet up!

You should be able to turn them off, as they are done through youtube studio. Hope that helps :) Unfortunately I dont think theres an option for me to change the size of them.

Thinking about it more, I may be able to do less subtitles at a time. Ill need to look into it. Thanks!
