Awesome! I didn’t realize just how quickly grass clippings start to break down after just a few days. Thank you for sharing!

Because grass has a lot of moisture and breaks down quickly, you can take advantage of this to eliminate tree stumps. Just pile grass clippings onto the stump and let Mother Nature reduce the stump back to soil.
@AtlantaTerry

You are correct that the decomposition process requires oxygen. This is why we should include wood sticks, branches, etc. as they allow some air to get in to the pile. When no air gets in, the compost pile becomes anaerobic and stinks.

I also find that an improper nitrogen carbon ratio leads to a foul odor. At least it seems to.

Terry, but to get oxygen you either need to turn the compost, thus the tumbler bin is better or put in pipelines that bring the oxygen to the material. Without oxygen the material rots and methane is released.

So I just came from a video that waters their compost with SUGAR water. And I had such a mind-blow moment, since we add sugar to yeast as a way to feed it. WHY didn't I think of this before. WOW!

Xueming Yu cool, it’s been no lid on a heat Matt by the window( so hopefully some bugs do some work, I’ve been trying to find worms but having trouble), and I transferred seedlings to it as they were dying. So I’m hoping the composting substrate won’t kill my seedlings. Currently entering day three of 30-32°C heat, ventilation high and humidity high

Don't forget to add around 15% wood scraps, sticks, underbush, tree bark. If you don't find any around your garden, surely you have leftover bark in a bag that is used to cover soil. It's to air out the compost. Or it will rot instead of composting. Here with grass it works well, he also aired it out. But the more you add kitchen scraps the more you need light wood scraps and the less you need water as there's plenty in the scraps.

Not where he lives, and not with just grass, the high temperature makes things compost faster. Also note he already has composted kitchen scraps. This is about the grass, after the water evaporates form the gras there's little matter left. For example banana peels need 4 weeks to break downs, if it's hot ? 1week. Also you don't need everything to break down completely to use it. It will just be less concentrated and release the nutrients slower over time. Many flowers trive on that

@zacherybutter7349
3 жыл бұрын
If you watch carefully you can see the rats' eyeballs light up in the video. But yes, little critters can help turn the compost pile for you. I have a method where we just throw tons of plants in with some chickens and let them compost it as well. They pick, scratch, and poop on the pile and eventually it gets worn down into compost.

7 months after your post and your pile of grass probably still looks the same 😂 you need a carbon source to add to the grass in order to make good compost and not anaerobic slime. It’s impossible to make grass “compost” or any compost in 3 days,I call bullshit 😂

Chop of the hay and add items with higher nitrogen. such as manure, food scrapes, coffee grounds.
@geneeddleman2132

@@redshipley if you can find alfalfa hay, it has very high nitrogen and protein content itself. Could probably just shred the bale and put it in, with water, and keep it watered and turned. Good afalfa or alfalfa/grass hay will have the nitrogen and carbon required to make your compost.
