I am looking to make something similar for my kits & piglet, and this helps. I love the fact that you don't pretend it is easy, and point out where you have gone wrong, used techniques that sometimes work, and sometimes don't. It helps the rest of us mortals ;) Thanks very much xx

I love your cat cave! Even more because it's not "ever so perfect". It has character and looks well loved with your kitty inside.. and even laying on it. I bought one that was beautifully round and looked like a dome. Within a week my cat had decided she preferred to sleep on it, rather than in it. It's now a really thick cat pad. But she loves it, so I love it also. It's also over 2 years old now and looking more like a really thin shedding piece of.. mess. You've inspired me to make her next one! You did a fantastic job!

I enjoyed your first attempt to make kitty cave. It turned out really good!! While watching, I was loving the different colors and didn’t want you to turn it inside out lol!! But it’s yours to make how you want of course!! I’m curious what the inside looks like as I think I would purposefully try that look but would be nice to see it!! Hey Rachel, Great Job. It was a big project for your first wet felting endeavor. I applaud your gumption in the first place, and the fact that you did not give up although you hit challenges. Good for you and good for kitty, keep having fun and thank you for sharing. I have had on my "to do" list to make a cat cave / large vessel video for a while. I saw another tutorial that said to lay all the wool in ONE direction first, then on the same side before you wet it, put the wool down in another direction, like a cross stitch pattern. THEN wet it, and all the wool will felt together to create a much sturdier sheet.

I have plenty of roving in my closet. I made a knitted & felted cat bed that came out too small. My guy is a pretty big cat too. All 16lbs of muscle. Big black cats are beautiful, but I think his bed will be blue instead. I’m glad you told us about the catnip, it always works. I also have catnip spray that I can put on it before soaking in hot water. Thanks, mistakes & all!

The cat cave turned out beautifully, and OMG your cat is so handsome!!!! Do you have a feel for about what the cost in $ was for your felted cat cave project [excluding all your many hours of labor]? I currently have ten special-needs rescue kitties all between the ages of 18 and 4-1/2. They'd need at least two of these caves EACH to keep them from trying to take them from one another. Like living in a houseful of two year old children LOL

Found your video after starting the project! Doh. Has made me feel a little more confident that the cave currently wrapped around pipe insulation is not going to be a complete fail. You're welcome! Thanks for checking the video out :) There were definitely points where I was like "Oh no... I just wasted all this wool... there's no way this will turn out good." But it worked out in the end! :D I think that it's better to have layers that are a bit thicker than layers that are too thin. If I ever made another one of these I would probably try to make mine thicker.

I'm somewhat new to felting--(have been processing wool/mohair and hand spinning for over a decade). What I keep learning is how labor/time intensive wet felting is, a quality I must learn to embrace, like crocheting lace--have done the 'hat on a ball' (which is a ball!!) I like your style--your video is fun to learn from--especially the part where you say " This looks like a ...thing..." I actually like the motley colored side of your cat cozy--I'm thinking of using the pot I scald poultry in to pluck feathers to have a good big vessel for the hot water part--Thanks again for a friendly video, and being approachable--if you ever need bats of wool, roving or custom mixes, I raise Jacob sheep and have all natural colors from black, silver, grey, some beige and lustrous white and textures from course leg fibers to the softest of the softest hogget hand spinning fibers...warm regards, Lisza Christine

For us lazy crafters there: You can place the crosswise layers all at once, there is no need of activate the felting process with soap and water layer by layer. You can also mix the soap straight in the water and skip the bother of rubbing the wool with soap.
