I don't know where this comes, maybe the detergent manufactures like Unilever or Procter and Gamble has paid the dishwasher manufacturers to use gaskets that are very reactive with vinegar, then scare everyone - so you have to buy their tablets. the amount of water used in a washing cycle, dilutes the vinegar so much, vinegar that is already diluted.. i don't see how it would make any significant damage. and if it did, it would take 20 years and the time to change the gaskets anyway.

Actually you shouldn’t be adding lemon juice as it neutralises soda. Chemical reaction of base and acid is creating a salt and CO2(bubbles) . In this case the salt is sodium citrate. It probably still has some cleaning potential as it softens the water but it is definitely better to use your mixture just as powder without the juice :) easier and better

I made this today. Swapped artificial lemon juice with real freshly squeezed lemon juice. The dishes turned out clean. I did NOT pre rinse the dishes before I loaded the dirty dishes in the dishwasher. I’ll come back in a few months to update my experience. I won’t know whether this recipe will ruin my dishwasher over time. I’ll probably know in a year or two. I cut the recipe in half in case it does not work, so I won’t end up wasting product. Store bought dishwasher pods usually left a scent on the dishes and sometimes I could taste the chemicals when drinking out of a dishwasher safe plastic bottle. I did not notice this with this diy recipe.

Hi there! Two suggestions… After you mix your ingredients together, test fit an amount into your tab dispenser. @@jagmoi259 I haven't made these yet, but I can answer the first question: she got 37 tabs out of the batch she made in this video. I paused it and counted, and then went and priced what I usually buy at Walmart. That one batch would replace about $10 worth of store-bought tabs for me. If you doubled it and got 46. then a single batch would have gotten you 23. That means your ice trays make bigger cubes than hers. As to how to get them to fit in your dishwasher...I think if I were in your shoes, I'd maybe tap them lightly with a chisel and see if I could split them. If not, I'd probably wind up breaking them up with a hammer. Seems to me that would be easier than a mortar and pestle. I have no idea whether dissolving them beforehand would make them not work. Instead of tabs you could always line a cookie sheet with wax paper and pour your mixture on the cookie sheet. Spread out mixture, and do the same, let it air dry. Then you can crumble the pieces and put into your storage container. You can scoop out what you need that way. I do it this way when I don’t want to mess with making cubes.
