My husband comes from a european background, and when he was a kid, it was a tradition for his family to make a big batch of sauerkraut. To this day, we still have the cabbage shredder his grandparents used, and we will be passing it down to our children along with that tradition.

It's very important too to get your salt to cabbage ratio correct. Too much salt and it won't ferment, not enough salt and it may spoil. Also, many people let it ferment for weeks so nine days is not a ceiling. I have found that 13 days is perfect for my taste. Thanks for the video.

I was just enjoying a hot dog with Sauerkraut while seeing the notification for your video 😊 Unfortunately it was the jarred kind and not homemade, but the next batch may be just that, thanks to your easy to follow instructions and even better, for a small batch. Tip for the Lid. I bought the Ball Fermentation Kit, that comes with Lids that allow Ferments to "breath," while keeping bugs etc. out. Been using these for my Milk Kefir and Sourdough Starter for years and love them.

Thank you for sharing, so easy looking. You never mentioned exactly how much salt per quart jar. It looks like you could be using with three 1/2 tsp or 3 tsp measurement. I kept going back and speed reading in the area of adding salt, never saw the exact measurement.

Kaleb, I knew you would get the Sauerkraut right! You are a GREAT Cook! I have made Sauerkraut and it is always too salty, and figuring out the "percentages" seems too complicated to me. But, I decided to try it your way and made 3 different quarts: One with Carrots and Caraway Seeds, One plain, and one with purple & green cabbage and carrots. I just sampled them after 3 days and they ARE SUPER DELICIOUS ALREADY!!!! I can't wait to eat these now! Thank you for a recipe that is easy to follow. P.S. - I like your 2 different voices when you are talking...it's cute!

Grandparents are gone, parents are gone and my family still makes saurkraut in crocks the way we were taught, I just love doing it the old fashioned way, I eat it everyday with meals and in-between, so good, my last batch I canned but this year I'm making a smaller batch and keeping it raw, that way I'm not killing a lot of the good bacteria, waiting till this fall to get organic cabbage from the Hutterites

I like to ferment/pickle the whole head, so I only core it. I use it to make Serbian cabbage rolls. 1 pound of ground pork, 3/4 cup raw rice, 1 packet of Fant sarma seasoning packet (or make your own with garlic powder, celery salt, dried onion, paprika, a tsp of potato starch).
