Ooooh Charlie you just melted my heart again with this classic teacake recipe. My grandmother used to make them along with homemade ice cream. She had 31 grandkids. I cannot tell you how much I miss sitting at her kitchen table with her as she made this wonderful delicious treat. I may have to go ahead and try your recipe. Noone in my family has her exact recipe. Thank you so much! ❤

I JUST want a tea cake that comes even halfway close to the ones my big-mama used to make when I was little. And normally your big-mama is your grandmother, but because I was raised by my grandmother, MY big-mama was my great grandmother, and boy o boy could she make some tea cakes!! I WISH I was in the kitchen when she made them so I could learn, but sadly that was not the case. My whole family is from Louisiana and I love your recipes, so Chawly, please don't let me down. Just so you know, I'm GOING to try this recipe to see if it measures up...even halfway...and of course I'll let you know the outcome!!

My Maman would have omitted the almond, which she hated, and replaced it with an equal amount of grated nutmeg, which we all love. Either way, wonderful cookies for tea. As kids we often came home from school on cold days (we walked) to find something good fresh from the oven, and an enormous out of tea. What a lovely way to warm up!

Why do some ppl put baking powder/baking powder in their recipe?…. I’ve baked it with and without and I’ll say it makes a dry taste in your mouth if you use baking powder/ baking soda . Your recipe is the best simple ingredients and straight to the point .
@CharlieTheCookAndrews

I'm not sure. People have their own preferences when it comes to how they prepare their food. Using leavening is not a common ingredient in a teacakes recipe. Flour, butter, milk, eggs, sugar, and flavoring are the common ingredients used. The dough is formed and baked. It's just that simple. I hope I was able to answer your question. Thanks!

Well, I can certainly say that yours are THE FIRST that actually look like my big-mama's. So, now I'm ABSOLUTELY going to try these. The only other thing I want to say is...if you're using parchment paper on a pan, there is NO NEED to butter the pan. You're just wasting butter because parchment is non stick on both sides, AND you can bake with it in the oven for over an hour before the edges even START to brown. Besides that, one sheet is reusable 3 times!!! I'm just saying...don't waste butter because we all know it AIN'T CHEAP!!! 😉😉😉

I figured out how Charlie stays so slim. He takes a bite and bangs the table. With each BANG he says to himself under his breath " I will not take another bite!" "I will not take another bite!" The better it tastes the more "will power "he has to bang up!

Growing up, my grandma made these often and many times had them ready as a snack when returning home from school. Thank you for sharing this awesome recipe. A few of my siblings were to young to remember these great tea cakes but thanks to you, they will now get to taste them again.

The table pounding. Is unnecessary to tell the story. This is what I have looked for, my grandmother, mother and aunts always had these cookies for the kids, and the big kids.

My Aunt is dead and gone...so I can trust y'all with her secret. To make hers different from the others...she added a smidgen of lemon zest to hers. She always said she wanted the flavor, but not the acid. A hint but not a kick. People knew it had a lemony something...they thought it was juice or extract...but it was just zest. Shhhhhhhhhh.....don't tell nobody y'all!!!! I trust y'all because we are family. She also said that her family taught her that tea cakes were called company cakes. They were quick and easy to put together. They cooked in a fraction of the time as a whole cake. The size of a cookie or biscuit with the feel and texture of a cake. You can make a few or a lot in the same amount of time. They didn't always have stoves so these were often cooked them like pancakes. My Aunt said that she had experienced this first hand..... if you were interviewing for a cooking position or housekeeper....This is something you can whip up real quick to empress your future bosses!!! They often had their friends over. If you went into the kitchen and made these...they for sure hired you or one of the others would try to steal you for theirselves. Charlie has awaken his inner grandpa! He going way back!!!! This is what they are serving for refreshments after the Usher Board program!!!
