Loving learning how to use Google Slides as an interactive activity. However, in presentation mode, when I click any where on the slide (not on the hyperlink), the slide will just go to the next following slide. How can I "lock" the rest of the slide and only the hyperlinks can be clicked? What am I not doing? Help!
@BrickSomething

Thanks for this. Nerdy questions: 1) You said you don’t expect students to watch in presentation mode. Is there a tech reason for that? What I started doing was using the “Publish” feature and sharing the link to the presentation, in which case it is automatically in present mode, allowing animations, transitions, etc. Are there features like playing audio or video that don’t work if you do this? 2) The Extensis fonts workaround you showed... Do you know if your audience needs those fonts in their Google account to see the fonts you chose? Or is it universally accessible once in Google Slides? Thanks again!
@EZEdTech
4 жыл бұрын
1. No particular reason. Just the way I share it. 2. There is now a slides add on for extensis fonts, but the viewer does not need it to see the fonts! Glad you enjoyed the video!

I went from 0 (literally not knowing what a google slide is) to making two slides and liking them for the most part. Can I give some constructive criticism? This is from my elderly dad and his suggestions to me when trying to explain tech to him: avoid saying, "just." I know it's hard to stop, and it takes practice, but "just" makes novices (students) feel dumb, like it's easy for everyone but them. Only a suggestion, because otherwise I love your tutorials!

Very nifty video. Always looking for new ideas (though I don't teach in school). I did not know to double click the outline to crop -- very handy! A couple of suggestions: 1. Why not just add text directly to the shape rather than having to manage a separate text box on top of the shape? You can still format the text as you would in a text box, but it's in a single place now. 2. When you first create the presentation, change the layout of the slide to Blank. Then you have an empty slide, and when you add a new slide, it uses the same layout so you don't have to constantly delete the boxes. Hope that helps.

Thanks for creating this video. I’m a little concerned about the implications that teaching others to add important information in a format (.jpg) that’s not accessible to your students with visual impairments is going to cause. How will your students who are blind tell what the background image says if you add it as a .jpg? Isn’t the date something you find important enough for all students to identify?

That’s a great point! I add the audio to my slides for this very reason. I show you how to add the audio so it plays automatically in my video on how to make interactive slides for for student centered lessons. If I had a student in my class with visual impairment, I would certainly make sure that all components of the lesson are available to them. That is something that is very important to keep in mind as a teacher. Thanks for bringing it up!

@EZEdTech

PNGs use lossless compression so they are better quality than JPGs, which use lossy, so as a rule I use PNGs when I can. As for the grouping, I really should use that feature more. Sometimes I get annoyed when I change my mind about groupings and have to ungroup, but there are certainly cases where it is easier. Personal preference/habit, I guess. I'm glad you enjoyed my video!

I have been on this video for hours. It has been a sanity saver for me! I have paused parts, re-watched parts, taken pages of notes and worked along with you!! THANK YOU! I shared the link with several of my "extra" teacher friends!! Do you know how to embed the slides in Schoology? They have taken my beloved Google Classroom away from us at my district.

Where do you find bitmoji of you pointing? All of mine have "words" with them, and none sitting

I think I used pointing as my search term on the bitmoji extension. I also show you how to get rid of the words in this tutorial!

Your videos have been amazing for me as a first time google slides user! I’m trying to become an Outschool teacher so this is a huge learning curve you’ve helped greatly with. Thank you 🙏

If we add a link from the assignment . Should we still make a copy for each student?

Yes you should! Make a copy for each student of the assignment you are linking.
