My mom made a version of these. 4 cups of flour 1lb of butter or margarine 1 tsp of salt 1 cup of sour cream 3 egg yolks Cut the butter into the flour and salt until crumbly. Add the egg yolks and the sour cream. Knead the dough until smooth. If the dough is sticky, you can add flour and knead the dough until it no longer sticks to your hands. Don't overwork the dough. When smooth, separate into four pieces, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate over night. For the filling: 1lb of ground walnuts 2/3 cup of sugar 1/2 cup of milk 1tsp of almond extract Mix all together. Now, after the dough has rested overnight, take it out and roll it out to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 3"x3" squares. Take 1 tsp of filling, put it in the middle of the square and roll it into a crescent shape. Place them on a greased cookie sheet. You can use an egg wash brushed on top to aid in browning. It is optional. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Remove from. The oven and roll in powdered sugar, or sprinkle, or toss in or on the pastry (cookie?) And let cool. To me, this is the best tasting filling! Everybody, though, has their own preferences and there are at least a dozen ways to prepare your dough and use a different filling. My mom's way makes simple and flakey delicate morsels of holiday delight!

Never heard of or eaten this cookie but I'm going to make them this week-end. Sound delicious. Only one question. With so many types of yeast out there, exactly what type are you using? Thanks so much 😀

What kind of yeast are you using instant or active? I know the active you have to proof first before adding to the flour.

The sheet she's using is a silicone mat, it helps keep stuff from sticking. You can find them : www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/silpat-reg-nonstick-silicone-baking-mat/3251124?skuId=12916850&mcid=PS_googlepla_nonbrand_bakeware_&product_id=12916850&adpos=1o2&creative=43742625469&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=Cj0KEQiAhs3DBRDmu-rVkuif0N8BEiQAWuUJr6UfrT0KM21aj0OfDqnH3xtprnwOPaj_4C3xzZEqNNQaAgnT8P8HAQ

My recipe uses evaporated milk or you can use heavy cream. I have used both. Going to try the sour cream.
