If possible, always opt for organic roots. These tubers uptake heavy metals, so knowing their point of origin is preferable. Chinese root produce is often high in metals because the farms are downstream from mines.

As I saw this video, I just went ahead and made some ginger lemon tea with ginger, turmeric tea. Mix them together and then pour them into the ice cube molds. I rarely have opportunity to get organic fruits~ and awhile ago the Lord Jesus Christ gave me the faith to pray and believe that He will multiply the desired nutrition from the small amounts I had to contribute to the recipe. ( Like the feeding of the 5,000). I first prayed about that when I was in a situation where I could not afford very much food and really needed fruits and vegetables ~I ended up getting organic pouches of fruits and vegetables at Walmart for a dollar ~and it did sustain me.

@@MarysNestyes please, I would love to learn how to make more elderberry products. I just made the syrup because my grandson came home sick from school. He was better in a couple day! But now I have 3 cups of syrup in my fridge and don’t want it to spoil. Last year when I made it it developed some white mold on top even though it was capped and refrigerated. I guess it doesn’t have a very long shelf life. I wonder can it be frozen to be used later if the family needs it? I hate to waste it. Also, can a tincture be made with elderberries? What is that process and what would the dosage be? Can fresh or dried berries be used?

tip on storing the frozen cubes. Store them in their frozen state in a paper bag or a glass container. It's important not to let them thaw even slightly, because once it melts, and. your store them in the bag or container, they will stick to one another in the freezer. It takes seconds to thaw so you got to be real quick from taking them off the ice tray to put into the paper bag or glass container.

A friend of mine, who has studied these things, told me that ginger isn't very useful if you're only boiling it (which is what I used to do).To get its benefits , you have to actually eat the ginger. So now when I make ginger tea, I grate it finely and put it in tea of my choosing. (Also I cook with it.) ❤☺️ Edit: I guess rather than grating the fresh root, using dried ginger would work.😁

Very interesting Recipe! The MicroPlane is supposed to be used on the other side. Flip it over and grate it on the Citrus like it is a Bow on a Violin. This enables you to see where the Grating is occurring so the Pith is avoided and the edging captures the Zest which you drop into the Pot just by flipping it over. Give it a try, you will be Amazed! ❤

From my experience in using limes, the rinds are unpalatable, I recommend skip using the lime rinds (using all parts of the lemon works well). In regards to all of the fresh ingredients, save your time and blend all of them in the blender, then heat the whole mixture. Also, I drink this mixture as a hot sweetened tea for the flu, sinus infections, and and type of inflammation.

Thanks Mary! Great video. Very clear and understandable. I would like to point out that if anyone is diabetic and using Mounjaro injection medication, check with your doctor before using any turmeric! My best friend is diabetic and using Mounjaro, so I looked for any contraindications and found the warning for turmeric with Mounjaro. Evidently they both lower blood sugar and when taken together can cause a low blood sugar incident. 🤷🏼♀️ I like to always check before I give her any herbal tea or medicine. So I'm going to make this for myself (arthritis) and try making it with stinging nettle for her. I wish I had found you earlier, but I'm really glad I did find you! Thanks again! 👍

Hi Mary. Love ALL your videos, and YOU! Here’s an idea for your parchment paper. If you have some tulle (mesh fabric), cut a square of that, maybe 8”-10”, crumple your parchment into a loose ball, wrap it inside the tulle, gather at the top, tie with a pretty ribbon or twine, and hang it in your pantry for an air freshener. I actually did this with an orange that my son and I studded with whole cloves when he was 2. It’s hung on our Christmas tree for 29 years now, and you can still faintly smell the cloves! 🥰

Mary, I juice limes often using the juicing tool you did in this video, and I will tell you I get lots more juice putting the cut side up and skin side toward the holes. The reason this works better is the seeds will not allow a total juicing with the cut side down, but the cut side up the seeds slide off to the side and the juicing is all the way down to the peel. Just be aware that you need to hold the device that the juice will come out the side of the device and not out the bottom with holes. I have not tried it with oranges or lemons, but it's a WINNER with limes.

🌴🌺Aloha Mary🌺🌴 A thought I had to use the now scented parchment paper... you can buy small mesh bags to put potpourri or scented beads in, perhaps you could cut up the paper & put some in those bags & hang them anywhere you want some scent... You could also make your own bags if you want... I also noticed you've added St Ann to your kitchen statuary 👍

Looks delicious! I think I would can it because my freezer is full, lol. 😉. I’m definitely doing that powder. It would be perfect in my homemade yogurt for breakfast. What a great way to start the day.

I really appreciate how sensitive you are to our budget situations and our attempts to try to do what you do. I’m a school teacher and cooking is not what I would consider one of my strengths, but as a mom? Your encouragement to keep trying has been gold. My sons and I thank you!

Hi Mary, I’m so glad to see your video! I do have a question and a suggestion: Do you scrub your ginger and turmeric prior to slicing? ( especially if non organic) Can you tell us what the pith and zest are in your lemons? Suggestion: for all the junk journal creators out there, we would use one of those parchment papers ( that smell so good) in our journals; cutting down to page size. What a great addition to our journals. ( we could enclose your site address in youtube in the journal as well) A cooking/recipe journal comes to mind. Oh the creations we can make! Thank you again!

It’s the white part of the lemon that’s directly under the yellow skin that she is zesting. Hope that helps.

Hi Mary! Thank you for your incredibly helpful videos! They've helped me a lot as a young woman, who was never exposed to traditional cooking and homesteading, learn how to keep my partner, (future) family and myself fed and healthy and I'm sure they'll continue to be amazing resources as I keep learning more! Could you perhaps talk about ways to prepare organ meats? I sometimes find them at our local grocery stores for quite cheap, probably because they are not very popular nowadays. But they are very nutritious and we should eat more of them! I've found it very difficult to find information about how to prepare them properly, especially for any organs other than liver. So I usually pass them in the store or they end up sitting in my freezer for ages. Could you share some insight or point me somewhere where I can learn more? Thank you for everything you do and all the best wishes to you and your family!

Hello Mary! This video came across my feed just in time for the fall weather!🤗 I've been battling inflammation & allergies but wanted a holistic approach. I think you should try using the parchment paper in your air vent, next to the filter! The home would smell amazing! 😊

Thanks for making this video. Quick question: but isn't heating ginger and turmeric for too long in the pot making them lose their nutrients , especially curcumin from turmeric?

I cleaned out a drawer in my fridge today, where I had quite a number of lemons and limes that needed attention. So I just juiced all of them and made ice cubes. I have the peels in a pile, so I'm going to put them in my old faithful Oster blender, add some dried turmeric and some sliced ginger from the freezer, blend it all up and put in the dehydrator. Thanks for the ideas!

I love this idea and the fact that nothing is wasted. I made this today and the purée is drying in my oven. I can’t wait for your book to arrive. I do have a question, my blender is plastic unfortunately and I now have a lovely yellow stain. Any idea how I can get that out or do I just proudly show that I make use of my appliances. :)

20:36 I always cut the ends so they don’t get in the way of the squeezer and also rolled my lemons on the counter first to soften them and make the juice come out abundantly.

You can nuke the lemons for a few seconds in the microwave as well to release all the juice
