While I was looking at macrame feather tutorials using regular cording, I was about to search ones with yarn and KZitem read my mind and recommended yours without me even searching it? BUT I just have to say, I've been doing macrame for a few months and your trick to use an 8-inch book (or any specific size of book) BLEW MY MIND. I've been measuring a reference piece and using that piece to cut each piece, one at a time, for months. The video overall was great, but that hack alone is truly changing my whole perspective on how long these projects can take.
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
4 жыл бұрын
That would definitely take a long time to cut each strand separately for sure. Glad my video was suggested for you. Macrame can be time consuming but very rewarding and I do find it relaxing.
@rebmichelle
4 жыл бұрын
@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts Oh it does, haha. I think that's part of why I put off more projects for a while. The one I'm doing is a gift my sister requested for her birthday (today actually) and that's why I got back into it. I also find it relaxing! I do have one question though: If you're trying to create fringe with a pet brush but it isn't working, what else should you try? I bought a pet brush specifically for it and it just isn't doing the trick. The cording itself is 3ply, 0.078inches (2mm) thick, and is meant for cooking, but cooking twine is what I used for my other projects (3mm size) and I just fringed each string individually with a sewing pin and comb.
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
4 жыл бұрын
Make sure the pet brush does not have bent metal teeth. They need to be straight. The pet brush is the best tool I have found yet to unravel the cord for the fringe. But you can also use a hair comb but chances are you will break some of the teeth on it. Hopefully the cord or twine you are using is a twisted cord and not braided. Braided cord is much harder to unravel. If you are having a hard time brushing out your fringe than make sure you are separating the plys by twisting in the opposite direction to get it started and then start brushing.
@rebmichelle
4 жыл бұрын
@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts The bent metal teeth must've been the issue. I've gone through with pliers and bent as many back to be straight as I can and it seemed to help! So thank you so much for that. I have a plastic comb, but I'm considering getting a metal one to avoid the teeth breaking. My cord LOOKS twisted, but it still will get knots as I try to get a pin through it, even when I separate the plus by twisting them, like you said (always starting at the bottom, too.) I'll look more into the differences between braided and twisted cord bc that might be my issue. Again, thank you for this advice though! I couldn't seem to find any other blogs or anything that had specific advice for this.

Hi Patti, had to write back tonight. I made a multicolor yarn feather today. It came out beautiful with your great instructions. The yarn I used was Red Heart Super Saver. The package says Medium 4, but it not cotton. It is thin and looks funny hanging because it looses its shape. Where did you buy your Bernat Cotton yarn ? My name is Patty too. Once again, the Best Tutorial Video I have watched. Any suggestions for backing, was thinking cardboard or felt. What would you use ?? Thank You
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
4 жыл бұрын
You can buy cotton yarn at most craft stores like Michaels or Walmart or online. It’s the same yarn that is used to make dishcloths. I prefer to use the cotton because it combs out nice to make a fringed feather or leaf. I don’t back my leaves. I leave them natural. If you want to stiffen them up a bit then you can spray them with hairspray and if you want them to stay more rigid than you can back them with felt.

You might have a hard time with beads. The weight of them will pull the leaf apart and make gaps if you add them before or after. Maybe try and add some accent embroidery thread with some of the cords if you want pops of colour or look for very light items to glue on afterwards.
