Isn't wood/ bone needles closer to stone age than medieval? Metal needles is around since 100BC. Drills isn't that uncommon with pump and cord drill, if technology advances to the point a drill bit can be produced, forging a needle is also possible. Just hammering on the forge is probably less time consuming than carving out a wood or bone needle as there isn't power tools and even water wheel driven mechanisms aren't that convenient. kzitem.info/news/bejne/2ql6l66mhZd_f2ksi=z2QxTL_c0bfW_fCu

well sure metal needles are very good, but metal, spezialy good steel was one of the most expensive things befor the industrial revolution. simple people could not afford a steel needle or it was just way easier and cheaper to make a wood needle. also forging was not for everyone. it also depends on what you need to do with it. for needle binding you need thick and slick needles to make loose bindings wich insulate much better and gets some kind of strechy fabric to make warm socks for example. for sewing, of course there would be thin steel needles needed.

Sure hope you wear a dust mask when you aren't making a video. The dust is evil for your whole respiratory system.

In earlier times i did often not wear a mask. But now i got a good filter mask, because i grind much more and also more different things like wood, epoxy, metal, hor, bone and many more.

You're very right, these needles look like they were used for nalbinding instead of sewing.

Title: Making Medieval Needles DIY Video: use power tools I am sure that’s exactly how it happened ;)

well sure, its not about making them the medival way, but if you want to, its no problem. Its a lot of work to make it without power tools and i dont have the time for that, since i need to sell things like this for a living.
