Biffa, love what you've done with the industries. I've noticed your total profits though on forestry and ores are negative (not sure why) and thought it might be an interesting segment for a future video to pull all of those into being profitable. Maybe when you add in the fishing industry you touch up the timber and ore areas so everything is pulling in a hefty profit, would love to see that.

Hello Biffa. Love your vids. Regarding production and shipping: to help with your warehousing and delivery needs, the Small Warehouse has the best ratio of trucks/size. If you're finding that your warehouses have all their trucks out all the time, the Small Warehouse is the best solution. Also, I think you'll want to turn off Importing on all your warehouse and production facilities & factories. Even with lots of warehouse and truck coverage, the algorithm can still wind up importing due to nothing more than a momentary lag in truck or product availability. If you use the Transfer Controller to disable imports, I think you'll find your industries get even _more_ profitable.

What are you going to do with the highway into the factory zone? The Modular House factory is directly in the way of extending that highway. You could extend that highway to the edge of the map and add another outside connection if the Modular House factory got moved.

That was amazing how much money the unique factories give. One thing to think about is that for exporting your unique products. Maybe you're better off having more small warehouses than one massive one if it'll give you more trucks for the amount of land used!
@jonathanmarsh8119

I generally have one big area for all of my factories. I tend to wait to get enough money to build them all, and put them all down so that I can use move-it mod to arrange them. I build an area between two turbine interchanges on the highway, have a rail cargo station in the middle of the area, and build all of warehouses in the area around the cargo station, then the factories around them. I found that there is actually very little traffic around the factory area, but tend to use square-a-bouts to keep traffic flowing. Another thing is that I prefer several medium sized warehouses over one big one. I find that it is easier to keep stock balanced across a couple warehouses rather than just have one point of failure.
@tobiasalexander4491
2 жыл бұрын
Love the build and layout - it feels very organic! Not sure if you mis-spoke or misunderstood, but your vans for animal products aren't out collecting goods. They're out exporting goods because they're trying to keep it "balanced". The delivery process is pretty much a one-way system. Everything delivers, nothing collects. If a warehouse is struggling that much it means you're either over-producing or you need more storage (or both!). Great episode though - can't believe how relatively light that traffic is!

When it comes to decorating and installing parking, can I suggest adding a passenger rail station? I've found for my own unique factory areas that it can help to limit incoming civilian traffic and keep the trucks flowing in and out.

Forestry & Ore are both operating at a loss. I know we're using their products for Unique Factories but we should still be able to get them to turn a profit (or at the very least break even).
@XiaoYueMao
2 жыл бұрын
irl theres actually a few industries which operate at a loss, but the government subsidizes them because their products are essential for a lot of other industries, an example is farming, they often dont make profit, or when they do not a whole lot, unless its a specialty farm, however government literally pays them because a ton of other industries would stall without them put simply, taking a few grand loss on a few industries is totally worth it to make hundreds of thousands from another industry, the reality is that making forestry and ore efficient enough to turn a profit often involves lowering profits from the factories simply because the main way ore and forestry makes profit is selling their goods... but they arent selling them, those goods are being repurposed, as such its more likely you lose out on overall profit if you make ore and forestry turn a profit

Great video as always Biffa! I have a name suggestion for the industry/port area: Rotteardam. (But I have to be honest, Balteamore as mentioned in another comment rolls off the tongue more easily :D) I also want to suggest a new theme for your next city: Have all the squares and buildings unlocked, so you can plan everything beforehand, like where the residential and industrial areas gonna be, so public transport can be planned ahead. Or have all the university campus buildings unlocked so there wouldn’t be a need to plop fountains or dorms to increase attractiveness, but rather build schools and departments. I know this means having a different approach to playing the game, because the population challenges won’t make sense, but I’m sure a good system can be thought of. Just a suggestion off the top of my head. Have a great day!

Hi Biffa, if you want your quays flush without the land glitching in the water when having buildings or roads near the edge of the quay, you use terraforming network from the workshop to drag a line out in the water against the side of the quay to flatten the earth below it.

One of the train lines out of your cargo harbor is on ground mode rather than elevated, it looks weird. Also, a point of personal preference, but I like the look better if you use move-it to make the cargo harbor align with the quay wall, that way the trains don't have weird bridge sections.

13:48 I think trucks spawned at/by the Cargo Hub will always turn right when they leave (i.e. will not cross the traffic) whereas trucks delivering TO the Cargo Hub from other facilities will enter it, disappear briefly, respawn and turn in either direction to go back where they came from, including crossing traffic to make a left turn if it's nearest.

Hate to tell you to do math, but it's best to do some math when setting warehousing. Check the number of vehicles to storage amount. The medium warehouse has 400k storage with 19 trucks, but the large warehouse has 750k storage and 25 trucks, the small has 250k with 13 trucks. That makes the small warehouse more efficient, so better to use in my opinion. 3 small warehouses will give you 750k storage with 39 trucks!!! Great build as always.

I generally don't produce my own raw materials in my cities because i cant be bothered with the location and then having it just run out eventually (except farm and forrest). I just let the raw materials come by import. But I end up putting atleast 4-5 conversation facilities for each type of resource for each type of industry and I end up making tons of money anyway (my current city, the oil industry alone averages about 45k per week). Actually, in my current city my bottleneck is the outside connections. I have all the trains and highways and even shipping lanes hooked up and the outside can't keep up with my cities demands. Either way though, way too few producers in your industries for sure.

That's true in real life, but in the game it runs quite a lot trains. It's still an acceptable solution in an area like this, but at the same time there are areas like my current hometown that back in the late 19th and early 20th century made a point of not creating any level crossings so there's plenty of those kind of small bridges around the place.
