I'm really interested in making home made natural perfume in a professional way and start a small business to sell it once I know exactly what I'm doing. But I find it hard to know where to start. I want to know what ingredients I should use to make the best longlasting natural perfume and that it's actually good quality, completely safe and doesn't seem too crafty. Do you have any tips for this or perhaps know where I can find actual good information on how to start something like this?

Hey Peter, Thank you for making these videos. I’ve recently finished my fifth perfume experiment and I feel like they just keep getting better, although all of them have been pretty and wearable so far. In your experience, does the order in which you add the drops in a perfume composition affect the final scent a lot? I’ve heard that it’s wise to start with base notes first, and I recently read that for reproducing the same result you should write down the order in which you added the notes. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Take care, Mina
@FragranceView
Жыл бұрын
Hey Mina, for my own personal way, I do tend to blend base notes first, and work up.. mainly for the reason that I want to know how it smells at each stage as it builds up, to get the balance. I don't personally believe that the actual scent will change depending if you added the base first, or the top first.. if it's the same formula, and you make it with the same amounts, you can add it in any which way and the end product will be the same, in my opinion.. Unless there's something in the formula that can react with something in particular.

the term fragrance oil is sometimes used to sale very cheaply made synthetic accords, some fragrance oils can be things like "Tutti Fruity" or "Orchid" (which there is no natural variety of oil) and they vaguely attempt to mimic something.. these are really meant for room diffusers, not perfume. - Sometimes fragrance oil can mean a genuine aroma chemical or synthetic, basically don't use 'fragrance oils' use either naturals or synthetics, synthetics are designed by brands like IFF, Firmenich, Guivadan etc to be used in perfume making.

When creating cologne what is a good method of percentages for top, mid, and base note. I see a lot of different methods. Which do you use a lot? Also when adding Hedione to fragrance I’ve see it says you can put up to 65% of formula. So if you are doing 20% fragrance and 80% alcohol for instance, does this mean you can add Hedione at 65% of the 20% fragrance or of the combination of alcohol and fragrance?
@FragranceView
Ай бұрын
I don't limit myself to any method, I go on intuition and feeling.. and it changes every time depending on what you want to create, and what the notes are.. I never found putting myself in a box of %'s helped me personally. - in that instance it means 65% of the 20% - if it was % of the final product ( it would be much lower number )

amber is not an essential oil, but an accord, a combination of oils together.. typically a basic amber accord is Labdanum combined with Vanillin, which is a powder. Though you can make it more complex with adding other resins like benzoin, myrrh etc.

To dilute a material accurately you need a scale, and then work out the maths based on the amount of weight you want to dilute. - To work out the concentration of the formula accurately also requires measurements with the scale, combing the total weight in oil, and then working out the weight of alcohol. It's just maths.

Quick question please! If the formula is 36 drops to 8ml of alcohol (yielding 10ml of perfume) what do you do when you dont want to be capped at 36 drops? In other words, say you want to make a more complex fragrance with over 10 different notes? Being capped at 36 drops.. what if an extra few drops of certain materials yields a smell you want etc ?.. because being capped using this method means you have a maximum of 36 drops to play with, doesent this cap and limit the creative process
