If you get a chance, try heating the metal up nice and hot and then apply some beeswax to it. It should seal the metal and give you a nice black finish.

Looks great. I want to do something similar with 1 1/2 maple or poplar but I don’t have access to that thicknesses lumber. All I have is 3/4 sos lumber. I thought about gluing but I don’t know if face gluing two 3/4 pieces will eventually warp or crack in the joint. Though about putting a 1 1/2 band on the edge of 3/4 to make it look thicker. Thought about using stair treads as my shelf… any suggestions?

I think it would totally work. It’s not super complicated to do folding miter even to hide the endgrain.
