I remember making one of those back in 7th grade. I gave it to mom for christmas. This makes want to try again. Thanks Ellen!

You are always making me rethink things around me that I can make! That is such a great tip to sew from the center out to prevent the layers from bunching up. And I am going to have to look at that bias tape maker. Who knew such a thing existed! Thank you so much for sharing!

I just made a couple of these for the first time. I found a way to do the binding on the edge before closing the mit up. I sewed up the opposite side of the thumb together about 6 inches up. Then I did the sleeve binding adding a loop. When done, I closed the whole mit up and turned inside out. It was easier than trying to add the binding when it was closed up.

Excellent way to use those particular scraps!! Now you could combine this project with your brand new blacksmithing skills and use your new oven mits to help you make some hand forged chocolate chip cookies!

I needed new oven mitts so I made a pair (just have the arm hole edge binding left to do). I wanted a set that would hold up to the heat. I haven't used mine yet but they feel like they will. I used my old mitts as a template. I was afraid I'd make them too narrow but they ended up being a bit wide. I'll have to tweak the pattern I made for the next set. I have a bit of leftover Insul-Brite, will use it to make a a big hotpad. I watched a few videos but this one resonated with me. Thanks for the instructions. BTW, you weren't kidding when you mentioned about the difficulty turning them right side out. lol

Super cool 👍👍👍 I need to make these!! Ya make it look so easy. A bone folder is a real handy tool for turning things right side out....among other tasks. ( like real job of book making lol)

Nice!! I made a pair when I was like 10 years old :D they looked okay but couldn't really handle (ha!) the heat that good so they were pretty useless

Unfortunately, after I sewed them together, they were too small and had to throw everything out. I will try again after I buy more batting. Very frustrating!!

Well done! Now I think, I should do my own padded jacket to wear under the chainmail while swordfighting. And I never sewed a stitch in my life.....
