@mikeappleget482
4 жыл бұрын
Linkin Sam We pretty much know it wasn’t below 5%. It’d be sickeningly sweet if that much sugar was added and it was only 5%. She put in a lot of extra sugar and she said she could definitely taste the alcohol. And we know it wasn’t 13% or 14% because that typically requires speciality yeasts that you add yourself. Plus I think she’d have reacted differently if it was that high. Lol It would’ve packed a hell of a punch that would’ve gotten a comment more than “it’s really not that bad...” And she just used natural fermentation (yeasts already naturally present in and on the fruit). Using natural fermentation, the yeasts usually die off when the alcohol reaches around 10%. I think it’d take at least a week longer to max out the alcohol content like that. So if I was going to bet money on it, I’d say it was around the 7% range.
@mikeappleget482
4 жыл бұрын
Linkin Sam I know. I’m just saying that we can deduce the true range using the information we have because we saw all her ingredients and the method she used. Wikipedia also probably states that cannabis can be 1% to 26% THC. But if we see the strain, growing methods and the persons reaction to smoking it we could guess the potency pretty accurately.

Honestly, the only thing is- if you had broken up three slices of bread, rolled them into little balls, and dropped those into the mixture, before the warming process, the presence of the yeast (the extra yeast should I say) would've produced much more alcohol in the finished product. It would have also come out carbonated, naturally carbonated. It's like prison champagne, with highly alcoholic fruit bits inside. Very enjoyable:-)

Hi Emmy - love the video, as I love all of your content. Something to note is that homemade or non-professionally distilled/brewed alcoholic drinks can often contain methanol, which is HIGHLY POISONOUS and can cause blindness. It happens a lot in poor communities in India and I learnt this is a medical workshop against addiction in a similar community centre. Even a small amount of methanol can cause horrifying side effects if metabolised by the human body. This is not to be confused with ethanol, which is fine to drink. While I adore how informed and well-spoken and educational your videos are, this video does not contain adequate safety warnings or any kind of test to protect YOURSELF from the possible ill effects of methanol! I'd love to be proven wrong and told that Pruno or this method of making it does not create methanol at all, or in negligible amounts, but I would hate for you to feel responsible if someone watched this video and then felt informed enough to brew their own hooch and it turned out poorly. Happy New Year, and a year of safety, love and light to you and yours. x
@gregoryschmidt1233
4 жыл бұрын
What she is making here is not, technically speaking, moonshine, because it is not being distilled after fermentation. It's more accurately wine, just not made from grapes. It is true that small amounts of methanol can be produced from the fermentation of fruits (fruits containing pectin, like grapes or apples, produce more methanol), but not in concentrations that would generally be considered toxic. You'd have to drink many gallons of fermented product to worry about a dangerous dose of methanol. Putting the mash through distillation is another story. Methanol has a lower boiling point than ethanol, so the distiller needs to discard the first bit (the foreshot) than comes through the distillation apparatus (the still). The most common culprit of the well-publicized "moonshine fatalities" is unscrupulous distillers wanting to increase the volume of their moonshine who either don't remove methanol or add a cheap, toxic alcohol like isopropyl.
@sriontimaitra6804
4 жыл бұрын
@@gregoryschmidt1233 This is great to know, and I'm glad she was safe while making and consuming this. I still think it would be worth providing the kind of information you just have, or even a link to this kind of safety precaution just in case someone did try to distill their own moonshine non-professionally or unscrupulously. I'm grateful for the time you've taken to elaborate here. I hope more people see this!

For anyone wanting to try this it absolutely works and if your googling botulism and are afraid of it they're scaring you on purpose to keep you buying alcohol commercially . So I was curious one since I'm an occasional drinker but also a hobbyist I was wondering could I make alcohol myself aka prison wine. I was skeptical but I had prunes and j was going to add a jar of old peaches but I remembered that preservatives absolutely ruin most wines. So I started with about a half gallon of water since I didn't know the exact amount to add pay attention to this because this was important for my end product. So after a week and temperature control and burping the bag after about the second day you can smell the alcohol being made by the yeast . After a week I strain whatever I have into a pitches and poured them into water bottles I ended up making two bottles and a half typical Kirkland water bottles and the thickness I couldnt really get rid of but it sat in the fridge for a few more days after the week. And I was skeptical whether I wanted to drink rotten juice from fruit I had sitting in my kitchen drawer but I was curious so drinking the wine I can taste the alcohol and idk if my recipe was perfect aside from the water I should have absolutely added more but the wine itself absolutely got me drunk and it wasn't drunk like oh God I feel like shit it got me the perfect drunk not over the top not too much just the perfect amount of tipsy drunk and Iwas pleased I read that alot of the time the first time you make it wrong and your left with gas or the runs the next day I honestly woke up a few hours later feeling pretty good

Think of all the levels on which to enjoy a video by Emmy. 1st, the uniqueness of the items that she often chooses to feature. 2nd, the amount of detail she's able to cram into her descriptions of The Taste experience and texture when she finally gets around to trying something that she's made. 3rd, how it is clear from the daylight coming through her window that she has spent all day making this video if not longer, but it seems effortless. 4th, even her ads make great interstitials in the middle of many of her videos. 5th, when she says いただきまーす, the auto generate feature makes her appear both delightful and looney all at the same time - BONUS! 6th, the actual bonus at the very end of her videos. 7th, the way she'll just say "you can make this in a sink ...or in a toilet bowl" so nonchalantly and factually like it's something people organically say in everyday conversation. 8th, the mindfulness that she uses in including disclaimers from time to time like in this video. 9th, THE THEMES, my goodness, the delightful themes of her playlists. 10th, the fact that even though her videos have gotten better and better with each Progressive year oh, you can still go back to her first kitchen videos and call them your favourite ones. 11th, sometimes she suffers through a recipe idea so that we don't have to, but we get to enjoy the process all the same. 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃 This list is potentially endless. and it would be weird to end it on 11. hopefully, anyone stopping by to actually read this comment, please feel free to add to it. And, Emmy, if you do happen to stop by and see this comment, it's a bit early but あけましておめでとうございます 今年もよろしく. Thanks for all the great videos this past year.

I just read Jarvis Masters' poem. It's so powerful, thank you for this video, I wouldn't have come across it otherwise, i think.

Can i suggest a video idea. You should do cold distillation for the wine you make. The topic is interesting and and easy to do. You only really need a wine and a 2 liter bottle.

I did try it and my bag exploded from so much air even after I did release it. I didn’t expect to be so much! 😂 I wasn’t so very good. More like a sweet and sour juice and vinegarish tasting as well.

My husband did 6 years and I’ve always mentioned to him on making pruno. But you made urs simple. Inside they add a lot more random stuff like potatoes and bread 🤮

@@TattedLilZaddy Once you bake the bread you kill the yeast... so unless you like botulism you shouldn't add it in my opinion lol

I'm glad you went with some oranges, keeps that pH under 4.6. I'd have added a lemon on top of that to be safe, but I'm sure yours was well below that minimum.

The time u mentioned that u noticed the liquid when u add sugar, it's a result from an osmosis process. You might notice this when you soak potatoes in salt water, it will soften them up because of the salt properties. The potatoes work as a semi-permeable membrane, and thus it moves water from the potatoes to the salt water. This also applies with sugar solution.

I think it's also important to remember that inmates are also dodging guard patrols, inspections, and probably other inmates. Having to avoid stuff like that probably causes problems with the process and thus the quality.

Emmy I worked in corrections for 30 years what you made is called buck from where I worked very easy to find due to the odor most inmates weren’t able to keep it down if drank in excess.
