We have a dearth of honey bees here which is very scary of course, and the ones we do see look weak, unwell, thin, barely holding on. Now that I learn how much they like the Red Bud, I will try not to use very much of it! If that feeds the honey bees I'm not gonna touch it

I made this last year. I have 2 red bud trees in my front yard. Also dehydrated some for tea. High in vit. C 😊So many flower jellies & teas you can make. My families favorite is Rose petal jelly.

I waited almost an ENTIRE YEAR to make this!! When you released this video last year, the redbuds in my area had just dropped! So, I’ve just gathered up enough redbuds to make this jelly after a year’s wait! I’ve also just had a baby daughter since then. Things has flown by!

You should try this with honeysuckle flowers also. The yellowed flowers are sweeter, but both yellow and white flowers are good, and make good tea also.

To get the cleanest form of any leaves fruit or flowers of a plant forage after it rains as the rain will flush what you harvest making it nice fresh and clean and it'll be more potent❤❤❤

The reason it might be green or some related color to that is because the redbud flowers have a natural indicator that shows acid or base depending on the pH level. If is it green, it is because the water was a little basic (alkaline) or there was some soap residue in the jar when you made the solution. Soap is basic. It turns bright pink when you add the lemon juice because it shifts to an acid due to the acidic lemon juice. Isn’t science wonderful. :) Thanks for this video. When we don’t have a drought, I plan to try this recipe! Love new adventures.

@@PREPSTEADERS It’s an acid/base indicator just like purple cabbage juice. Cabbage juice turns pink in the presence of acid and green blue and purple in the presence of base. :)

Redbud is our state tree but I don't think I have ever heard of redbud jelly, is it good? American beauty berry jelly is supposed to be good even though the berries have no flavor,maybe it's the sugar, if it's sweet it's good. I might try it sometime, I really don't eat much jelly, once in a great while I will make meatloaf and use it to cook the meatloaf. I think I remember your other redbud video.Thanks

Could you please tell us how many pints or half pints this makes? Also as someone who cans homemade jam and jelly from flowers: Pour into pint or half -pint jars. 1/4 in headspace. Place in hot water canner, bring to boil. Can for 10 minutes. Let cool on the counter on a towel or wooden cutting board over night. BTW caning lids and rings only finger tip tight before processing.

I’ve never seen redbud trees here in Minnesota. Wondering if you can do this with lilac buds or rose petals. The other question I have is are there other ways to make this without pectin because the store I buy my groceries is all out unfortunately. Great video! Thanks for sharing!

I've made dandelion, wild violet and Queen Anne's lace jellies. The wild violet tastes a bit like plum. The other two are unique. Someone told me any edible flower can be made into jelly.

Susan, to be honest, the old timers around here admit there is not much flavor except the sugar. The color though and the nutrient value of the flowers makes it fun though. I make red bud pink lemonade made with Stevia or Sucanat, dehydrate leaves for lovely Vitamin C rich teas. Flowers are THE BEST decoration if you make somebody cupcakes or a spring cake.
