What is rose water?
Rose water is created by distilling rose petals with steam. Rose water is fragrant, and it’s sometimes used as a mild natural fragrance as an alternative to chemical-filled perfumes.
Rose water has been used for thousands of years, including in the Middle Ages. It’s thought to have originated in what is now Iran. It’s been used traditionally in both beauty products and food and drink products. It also comes with plenty of potential health benefits.
Our tips:
• It is recommended to use approx. 0,5 kg of the raw material for obtaining1 L of hydrosol. Depending on the quality of the hydrosol you can increase or decrease the quantity of raw material for 1 L of hydrosol obtaining.
• You do not need a separator for hydrosol distillation but it is preferable to use a funnel with a cotton disc to filter hydrosol or you can filter at the end of the distillation.
• Change the container for collecting the hydrosol every 30 minutes, the hydrosol that you get from the first container will have a strong and rich smell, the hydrosol in the second container will have a less strong smell, etc. At the end of the distillation, you decide whether to mix the hydrosols from different containers or leave and use like this
• Prevent the temperatures of distillate coming out of the condenser from rising above 35 °C. (a thermometer will help you with this, it is in all our kits, except for the basic set) if you are using a pump, then you need to make sure that the water in the bucket stays cold, you can use regular or dry ice for cooling
