Don't throw away those dead minnows from your bucket, turn them into salties, a great bait for catching pike, walleye, and whatever else you're targetting under the ice! It's simple, doesn't require a lot of stuff to do, and can make minnows that seem to be growing in price last much longer!
Learning how to make salted minnows is easier than some people might think!
You'll need this stuff to follow along with me:
- (preferrably) dead minnows
- pickling or some other kind of non-iodized salt - if you don't have pickling salt, fine iodized salt works just as well (read table salt)
- a large ziplock freezer bag
- disposable paper towels
- Non-chlorinated water - even better if you just keep the water your minnows came in
- OPTIONAL -
- Some kind of seasoning, I like to use garlic powder
