This is SO helpful! I hate small talk because I feel like oftentimes it doesn’t help me really get to know people, but I love how you teach taking surface things to a gradually deeper level. Thanks for this I’m gonna try it!

im just now starting at college again, and was directed to interact with *each* of my classmates, individually, for at least 5 minutes each. it was super interesting to observe the way small talk is a two way street. you can show up and be balanced and intentional with someone, but if they are not balanced or do not have the same intentions as you... it can be like talking to a wall. it doesn't mean you cant try and be friendly still, its just worth observing. the difference between a more timid person or someone who genuinely doesn't feel like talking. I had some great conversations with people I wouldn't have expected to, and likewise, some people I thought I was more similar to actually had more tension and required more grounding in convo than I anticipated. not sure the worth of this comment outside of the context but I just wanted to share. I haven't had a chance to meet so many new people in a long time, so I'm really aware of my interactions since I am on this journey now. thanks ariel I look forward to any new advice I might get from this one :)

Thank you for your videos! Can you make more about how to regulate ourselves? I feel like I can communicate efficently and have successful conversations (in general) but I have a hard time regulating myself, especially when I'm nervous, and sometimes breathing doesn't do the trick. Thanks again

What is your opinion on starting a conversation with friends?? Example: After school i walk home with my guy friend and this is the end of the day so I've already noticed and complimented everything new i noticed about him, and there is nothing new about the environment around us... During school i talk to him about many different topics going from science topics/subjects to math subjects, talking about our futures and teying to find out what we are interested in... But once we start to walk home, he always trys to start a conversation and i feel bad, cause whenever i try to find a topic to talk about nothing comes to mind. On top of this, he is a very smart, and intelligent person who knows all aorts of things that i may not know until he talks about them... Do you have any advice dor this??

Why do I need to learn this to cater to neurotypicals when the whole world caters to them already? I’m trying to unmask my autistic traits, not go back into the autistic closet. They need to learn how to accept people who are different. Trying to act neurotypical is like admitting to myself and them that being neurotypical is superior cause why would I wana be like them? Unmasking autism is revolutionary because it forces people to nurture a more inclusive world. Also, why should I be the one putting in all the energy and effort to keep the conversation going when they’re not doing the same? That’s just a sign they’re uninterested.

This is not about being neurotypical or neurodivergent, it’s simply for anyone who wants to small talk and feel good about it.
