When I’m at a hot dog cart, I want a clear menu. That is important to me.

Yup, we gotta set ourselves apart from the lazy ones who just want a quick buck. I love it when people tell me “wow I’ve never seen food come out of a hot dog cart like this before”.

I would agree on having a quality product. A good kosher beef dog. Simply Heinz ketchup. French’s mustard. A decent prepped bun. Put that all together for a value price and I’ll be coming back around. Do it half assed and I probably won’t bother to come back.

I think the bun can be steamed or lightly toasted, either is good. Just not pulled right out of the bag cold.

I toast all my buns. I prefer them grilled so it creates a barrier between the juice from hotdog and other condiments. Keeps the bun from getting soggy.

Some of the points you brought out I have seen in person and on videos posted online. I like how your menu board looks nice and neat and not chalk board scribble. I really think "clean" is everything in the hotdog cart business, not only the cart but the actual vendor. I have seen some online who are unshaven, rag tag clothing and don't even use the plastic gloves to handle food. I always take a look at any food operation when I walk up, and if it doesn't look clean ... I will not order any food. If a vendor has a nice clean cart and operation, it does make me feel like the food was handled and prepared correct.

Couldn’t have said it better myself!! 9 times out of ten when someone walks up to my cart they are looking up and down at everything including myself to make sure my establishment is well taken care of and clean. Heck I even go as far as carrying a broom and dustpan so I can clean up the area I’m vending at. Most businesses blow leaves and trash off their property Into the street and that’s usually where I set up so first thing I do when I get down is survey the area I’m in and see if it needs immediate attention. It goes along way!!

Hot dog cart is all about convenience to me. If you got a decent dog for a decent price, I’ll get it. If you give me a quality product, I’ll make a point of coming back and visiting again. If you only have exotic hot dogs for high prices, I’ll go to Costco.

I don't know why I'm watching this video. I have no intention of running a hot dog cart or food truck. I think I just like to get a sneak peek into what others do professionally. It's interesting to me.

What do you clean your cart with to get water marks off? Also how do you keep condiments cold while on table?(I had a metal serving tub but the ice melts to fast.) Please, your input is important to me??

I keep all my condiments in a smaller cooler in arms reach and I just pack it full of ice.

As for keeping the cart shiny I use Ecolab stainless steel polish. You can pick it up on eBay or if you have a restaurant supply store near you they should have it too.

I would wouldn’t pay so much for a hotdog. I also wouldn’t want such elaborate hot dogs. Just a good kosher beef dog with ketchup and mustard. Wouldn’t pay more than $3.

@@cookncrook6902 That's perfectly reasonable. On the other hand, the simple dog and can soda I would purchase for $3 would put more profit in his pocket which he loses chasing the big sale.

I think that Costco, quarter pound all beef dog with bottomless soda for just $1.50 should be on every dogger’s mind.
