I loved this amp before this video but now this is like dating more homely girl in high school who gets super hot in her 20s! For context my other high gain amps are a dual recto and a Mark 4, amps that you generally run the presence quite low. This said, without thinking, I was rather conservative on the settings of this knob. My GAWD did this video make a huge difference and made me realize how conservative I was approaching my settings in general (this had not occurred to me). In particular the way in which the video was structured I see as nothing shy of brilliant. A more well thought out manner of dispelling this information simply does not exist. My amp truly came alive as a cause of your video. Thank you SO much for sharing your knowledge, I’ve now been smiling for 2 days!!

One of the many things I like about this channel is that you always play riffs while demonstrating an amp or gear instead of just solos, as many other channels do. It’s impossible to grasp any tone from just solos, so as a rhythm guitar player, I truly appreciate it John! Amazing work.

From the beginning of using guitars and amps, I always came back to the sound of Marshalls. But I specially love Marks MT15. It’s such an amazing, heartwarming and nice sounding small amp. This series will show some nice variations of sounds on amps, nobody would have thought they sound so brutally different. I love your settings in the end of this video. I don't think many people think amps sound best at noon, but it is a good way to get a baseline comparison for the amp's natural characteristics. It gives a good "baseline" if you will, which you can then scuplt as needed from there for the tone you're after. For me noon gives a good idea of the tones the amp excels at or wants to give which can in turn give a good indication on what genres it will be suited for best

Nice video John ! I'm pretty much using the same settings as you do, but I add an OD in front and reduce the gain on the amp for more clarity (of course it depends a lot upon the cab sim you're using). I alos wanna say for people watching this video that you should really avoid pushing the master beyond 9 o'clock if you're using a loadbox. If you do so, your power tubes will get burned in no time and those 2 are not cheap + you might need a professional to do the replacement ans use the bias correctly. With the master at 9 o'clock you've got enough warmth and low end to really feel the power of this lunchbox head ! And if you try this setup in a real 4X12, you will understand even more clearly why you don't need to go higher :)

Sorry if I already posted this suggestion a few months ago but an interesting video would be that you dial the same amp with guitars in different tunings (E Standard, Drop C, B Standard and F# Standard or even more if you're willing too). I've been playing through a MT15 for the past year. I really like the little guy, but he can be a little dark. Although it is a very crushing dark tone. I think it's great for recording, but not the best for a live mix. You definitely need to get the treble and presence up to bring the tone out front. What amazes me is how high you had the bass. My 5881 loaded example has huge, resonant low end which can get out of hand pretty quick. My personal settings are bass 11:00, mids 11:00, treble 2:00, presence 2:00 and gain 12:00

I LOVE this amp. I sold a Mesa Boogie to pay for it and I don't regret it! What pickups did you use for that tone? Most of my guitars use high output pickups like the Tremonti Treble or the Bare Knuckle Pickup Nailbomb. I only have the gain at 9 o' clock, bass at noon and the mids and treble around 1 or 2 o' clock for my Floyd Rose equipped guitar, and roll the bass back a tad with my others.

Depends on the speakers you’re running that head through along with guitar pickups. Plug that head through a 2x12 Two Rock cab with a Les Paul or 335 with low wind PAF style pickups and it’ll blow your socks off with lower gain tones especially on the clean channel with the knob pushed out. I can nail Warren Haynes Soldano tones with that setup. So many people look at this amp like a metal rock amp but it’s so much more than that.

@@SonicDriveStudio I wonder if that might be more of a determining factor. I have owned this amp for about 3 years and have recorded 2 songs using it. The first one was in E-standard and my settings were literally all controls at 12 noon except the bass and gain which were at 10 o'clock, boosted with a tube screamer type overdrive. Tone was perfect for the song but I wasn't trying to make the guitars super present in the mix. The 2nd one was in C-standard and I ended up using the Bogren Digital IRs that were meant for down-tuned guitars and my standard setting was again perfect. Without those new IRs though I had experimented with boosting the presence and Treble but it wasn't quite what I wanted but the IRs got the tone where I wanted it. I used to run the amp at your volume setting but eventually discovered I like the sound more with the Master at noon rather than at 9 o'clock. I'm using a load box so I can run it as hot as I want without killing my ears. I agree it's ungodly loud at almost any setting through a real speaker cabinet. This is one amp I will NEVER sell. I can get a good crunch on the MT15 lead channel when i stick with lower output pick ups. I also put an 12AT7 in v3, to lower the over all gain output. Definitely agree that the presence and trebles have to be cracked passed 1 o clock to have real impact.
