How to Make Biryani Powder at Home
Biryani powder is a flavorful spice mix that adds depth and richness to biryani dishes. Here’s a step-by-step guide to making it at home with all the essential ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons coriander seeds
1 tablespoon cumin seeds
1 tablespoon fennel seeds
1 tablespoon black peppercorns
2 teaspoons whole cloves
2 teaspoons of cardamom pods (green and black)
2 cinnamon sticks (1-inch pieces)
2 bay leaves
1 star anise
2 teaspoons of dried fenugreek leaves (optional)
1 teaspoon of nutmeg powder
2 teaspoons of red chili powder (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
1 teaspoon dry ginger powder (optional)
Instructions:
1. Dry Roast the Whole Spices:
Heat a pan on medium heat and add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, black peppercorns, cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, and star anise. Dry roast the spices for 2-3 minutes until they release their aroma. Be careful not to burn them.
2. Cool and Grind the Spices:
After roasting, transfer the spices to a plate and let them cool completely. Once cooled, grind them into a fine powder using a spice grinder or blender.
3. Mix the Ground Spices with Powders:
Add nutmeg powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and dry ginger powder to the freshly ground spice mix. Blend again briefly to combine everything well.
4. Store the Biryani Powder:
Transfer the biryani powder into an airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place. It stays fresh for 2-3 months.
Usage:
Use 1-2 tablespoons of this homemade biryani powder per serving of biryani for an authentic and rich flavour
