This is actually very timely. I just got a pellet stove last year and with the relatively warm winter have many bags of pellets left. When these pellets come in contact with water they revert to a very fine sawdust. I've been looking for uses for the leftover pellets (or a way to keep them dry until next winter) and people are finding all kinds of uses for the sawdust. I've been experimenting with several kinds of paper clay for the past year or so and have some favorite recipes, but I'm looking forward to watching these videos and giving this a shot. If anyone has a problem coming by the sawdust, you may want to see if you can find some places that still have the pellets around. The premium soft wood pine pellets go for a whopping $5-$6 for a 40 pound bag. I'd just put some in a bucket, add a little water, then spread it out to dry .

Thanks! I gave this a shot when I got home from work, and a handful of pellets yields quite a bit of material. I put some in a bowl and filled with water to cover, and a short time later they had all disintegrated. The downside is that now you have to get them dry, but I took a smaller amount and hit it with a heat gun to speed up the drying time a bit and they dry easily as fine as what you had in your video. A single 40 lb. bag of pellets would make a hell of a lot of this clay. A thought just came to me, have you considered using a thin coat of wood filler on the surface if you want a really fine sanded finish?

Hi i was filling these 3d sculpture with cement mixture which works well, but many times the shells crack over a couple of weeks... plus it would be nice to have them 1/2 the weight... my question is this... to fill each sculpture it takes approx 28 oz by volume... i think fine saw dust using either 2 part resin or some type of glue... this fill is mainly for strength, but does not have to be that strong... any ideas on a fomula ,ratio i should try... it does not have to be thin as i can pack it in with a stick etc... what about elmers glue in large gallon? do you think it would dry? my statue is 10'' height shape of a water bottle... so it would be like filling a water bottle upside down that has its bottom removed... i need to keep cost down best i can... thanks for any ideas

It’s one cup tightbond II wood glue, 3/4 of a cup of joint compound and almost 2 cups of sawdust. You just have to judge the sawdust by the feel of the clay. It’s an air dry clay, I use acrylics when I paint but I’m sure it would take just about any type of paint
