@@KohleAudioKult To be honest I often prefer a non distorted bass. And I am someone who used to use a Boss OD-1 (the best for bass overdrive!! Nothing beat OD-1) from the beginning. I like Lemmys sound, I like Peter Steeles sound, I like DD Verni, I like old Angelripper. But! A lot of modern distorted bass sounds the bass less(!) audible in the mix! It blends into the guitars. What may be good. But listen to old Paradise Lost - wow. Death, Therion, Atrocity, Unleashed. Even Kreator Pleasure to kill. Bass is audible and goes into the balls. Dirty yes. But not that slight sissy distortion to "blend into the guitars".

@@deadcattv6278 Good observation. I came to the same conclusion after hearing other people who play Spector basses. Webster plays a Euro 5 string with 35" scale length, his signature EMGs and afaik the circuit within the bass is something from Dark Glass (Darkglass Tonecapsule?). I only play a budget Ibanez SR 5 string but I am trying to aim for his tone when recording (with free plugins only at that. 😅)

This is much better bass tone for almost all Metal, than the other one you showed for Metal, since I want to hear the bass without it melting so much with the guitars. To put hi gain in the battery boxes thus losing the nuances of this? In the end everything will be a snowball of hi gain if the search for differentiation goes there. It is the best and most balanced bass tone that you I have listened. The wall of sound is taken out by playing with pleasure, balance and a lot of balls and not making use of the hi gain for everything, I think. I'm sure you boosted the bass for this video, but this is how it should always be mixed. This is a compliment. In the beginning jam i could hear the nuances of both the bass AND the guitar(s). It gave the jam so much more depth. In most mixes the guitars are too loud (to where you have to turn the the song down during wailing solos) and the bass is way too low (nearly inaudible). I don't know if it was an accident, but you are closet than anyone I've heard to finding the perfect mix. So bravo. Inspiring stuff

Awesome video man got a question for ya I recently turned my cousin onto playing bass, I play guitar, and he's super obsessed with fuzz tones. What's your thoughts on using a super fuzzed out tone with metal? I'm all for it as long as it's used in context of the song and doesn't get in the way of every thing else that like you said is the chaos of metal haha hope to hear from ya keep the horns up and love your channel and your experience has helped me greatly.

You mean fuzz on bass or guitar? Fuzz is the king of distortion, but it kills all definition. That's why hardly anyone in metal is using a fuzz. It will also kill your lowend on bass if you don't blend it. But yes, it has style!

@@KohleAudioKult I mean fuzz on bass. I've also brought that to his attention to get a fuzz that has a blend on it to mix his clean signal with the distorted one.
