Damn, I was hoping RNBO was part of Max and not a $300 addon XD I have Max 7 but I never did get into using it and basically abandoned it when Bitwig got The Grid. But being able to export directly as a VST3 is a big deal for people that know how to create things in Max. I thought they used to have a product that did this that *was* part of Max/Msp called... Gen? Or maybe it just spit out C code, it's been a long time since I've paid attention to Max. For a while the only way for me to get to 8 was a yearly sub so I noped out. Now they have a full license upgrade again. I'd have to learn how to do stuff in Max really well before I could justify $400 (or the ooftastic $20/month for Max8/RNBO) to make my own VST3 stuff. But I digress, thanks for sharing!

Actually if you want real FM, don't modulate the frequency. Create a phase driver (a simple ramp from 0..1), multiply it by 2PI, and send it into a sine function. This way you obtain a sine oscillator, but to do FM (like it's done in DX synths), you only need to add the modulator audio signal to the phase driver (the ramp in between 0..1). This way the FM amount is set by the amplitude of the modulator, and FM feedback will work also as expected (the DX synths do some averaging in the feedback path). The simple formula for an FM modulator looks like this: Output = Sin((Ramp+Modulator)*2*Pi); // the frequency of the ramp is the frequency input of the operator // the Modulator is a simple audio input In most modular software the sine function is scaled so that an input of 1 represents 2Pi, so you can leave the multiplication with 2Pi in Reaktor, AFModular, and probably even in the Grid.

can you suggest a resource where i can learn more about this?

You can very simply achieve real (linear) FM using the pitch input... if you're interested in the patch I can give it to you or explain it. Basically I simply re-calculate the usual (=linear) input in a way, that makes it being "transfered" to a pitch-value (achieved by Math Modules inside The Grid. Verified, working. Sound of real FM in The Grid is interesting an - as expectable - much different from PM.

@@McGyver008 Self modulation / feedback modulation wont work properly this way, it will detune the sound a lot.

Hi, thanks for tutorial! A question, with rnbo is possible export Vst/Au with most interesting Gui? Example, with presentation mode in max?
@PolarityMusic
Жыл бұрын
no. You have to export to c++ and then implement your own gui

One Big disappointment for me is this: I was first excited that one could apparently purchase a RNBO subscription for 10/month (or $100/year)... but then was very disappointed to learn that since I have the FULL Max 8 license... my only option is to pay a full $300 ... no subscription options are for available Full license owners vs. Subscribers.. That is too bad, because I am sure there are others like me who want to pay for subscription but am not prepared to pay that much $$ upfront!

I am in the same boat 😢 I wish Cycling'74 made monthly purchase option for everyone. Unless rich, cash-flow is too tight always to jump Marvellous software Bespokesynth would be fun to use with RNBI

Is it possible to get rid of JUCE logo popup or improving GUI by using svg and png strips?
@PolarityMusic

no. you have to export to c++ code and then add the gui manually. rnbo only exports a generic gui with all parameters
