Since the light leaks are already blurry, I would try shooting at 1/30 or 1/25 for that extra motion blur (to make it even more blurry and to negate some of your handheld movement of the reflective object). Also I recommend shooting Light Leaks with the audio in your camera turned on and with you calling out loud what you are using (so that in the future you can remember what you used and what you liked the most). EDIT: Also Manual WB as you don't want color to change mid-shot for your light leak

Three videos in my Sub box today talking about using light leaks. The other two just mentioned it, not the focus of the video. I'm all for it, just found it funny. Thanks for the ideas Caleb.

Hey Caleb, Thanks for making this video. It really simplifies how to make light leaks. Would you consider making a video about custom gradients for sunrises? I would like your input on gradients, and I think it could be beneficial for your viewers. Anyways, I hope all is well with you, and thanks again for making this video. Cheers! - Paul

A light leak is when the edge of photographic films is briefly exposed to light, either when changing the film, or when a film camera is not properly sealed. The exposed film when developed then has flashes of light, often colored red or yellow. Theses flashes are typically on the left or right edges of the frame, and move about fairly rapidly. While your effect is interesting, at least from my experience in shooting film and seeing the occasional light leak, yours aren't nearly random enough, and move far to slowly. Your light leaks look more like lens flairs to me.

Thumbs up! 👍 I love all of the stylized artistic videos lately. If you’re not careful the next DSLRvideo shooter upload will be “How to get that artistic film look: Shoot Canon” 😂😂🔥🔥🤘🤘 I bought the GH4 last week off of eBay and man, I just can’t get into it 😭. It has the most amazing features and is super fun to use but when I sit down at premiere with the footage it’s just super sad times. I’m going to sell it to grab an a6500 to see how that works out. I get it, these little cameras are super fun and super feature packed and I can see why so many people are stoked on them but If I’m really honest with myself and stop drinking the koolaid for long enough to be real, the footage isn’t as good. 😭😭

Hey Caleb, I know this isn't related to the video so much but I just wanted to ask you if you've had any problems with VFR with the GH5s. I've been doing a lot of research on the GH5s and I keep seeing an issue with VFR when it comes to higher ISOs. Seems like a weird horizontal noise pattern happens. Thinking about buying one but I can't commit to it if that's still an issue. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it and if you've had problems with it at all. Thanks for all you do!

so i have a suggestion... most of the cameras you feature on the channel are mirrorless and not dslr... i recommend a name change to: "Digital Video Shooter" that's all, thanks for reading. Love your channel, long time subbed.

I get the reasoning behind it and I always appreciate to know "how it's done". But I think it looks pretty bad when the light leaks / flares are visibly moving independently from everything else. It is more distracting then visually pleasing in my mind. I feel the same way about all the different ways to stabilize video on the lens or sensor level. Whenever you have lensflares on a stabilized rig, they are jumping around like they had too much coffee, it's just not pretty.
