Excellent tutorial, a good exercise in listening for resonance! A small clarification on something you said around 2:45 : the FF Pro C-2 "hold" parameter prolongs any peak *reduction* before release of compression. The "leave the initial phase of the sound" (transient) unaffected is, as usual, dialed in with the attack parameter. Cheers!

Piano is always tricky! Good tips. Nudging the individual midi notes so they don't ALL play at 'exactly' the same time makes a BIG difference as well to get a more realistic part. The F9 Piano for Kontakt is an amazing club piano.

Agree 100%. People are so used to quantizing everything, that they forget that having un-quantized notes makes things sound bigger by default. And even better, duplicate your piano track, apply a different "humanize" setting to the original one, and use that to add stereo imaging. It's better, in my opinion, than using a plugin. And yes, F9 is awesome! I have a lot of their stuff and most of them are just great stating points, the piano being one of them

Hey! I was wondering if you had bought some plugins when you started producing. Cause I'm a beginner and watching tutorials and masterclasses make me feel like I could really use some extra plugins like serum, nexus, kontakt, etc... For example, I feel like the pianos (the stock ones in fl studio signature) don't sound really well. Could you give me some advice? I would realllly appreciate it! ;-)
@iamdannywyatt
3 жыл бұрын
Don't get tricked by the idea that stock plugins suck. YOU make the music, not the plugins (or your speakers, or your DAW). If you are a beginner, it's natural that you hear certain sounds and think they are bad. It takes time to learn. Yes, it's easy to have a plugin where you click a button and your source sounds amazing, but what are you learning with that? Nothing. If you learn the foundation with stock plugins, you will become a better producer/beat maker. My challenge: try to copy his piano chord progression into FL. Find a way to download this video and edit the audio where the M1 piano is playing and import that into FL. Now you have a reference. Open the FL piano and try to EQ and compress your piano until it sounds similar to his. Hope it makes sense. Practice practice practice

@@iamdannywyatt Thank you for your answer! I have another question: how do your hear 'bad' frequencies which have to be cut out with EQ?? I'm trying to but I can't figure out why people cut out some very specific frequencies
@agentm00se
3 жыл бұрын
@@maximevanraemdonck1712 its totally subjective, whatever sounds good to you. and if you arnt sure right now thats ok, you will become better at this the more time you spend making music. also dont get too caught up in using eq sweeps to look for 'bad' frequencies, if you boost any band high enough it will more than likely sound bad, so only cut things when they are clashing with another or just dont sound nice to you.
@maximevanraemdonck1712
3 жыл бұрын
@@agentm00se thank you for your answer. I was just wondering, how do you hear when frequencies are clashing? I mean what is the audible result?
@agentm00se
3 жыл бұрын
again, its kind of subjective. if you have elements that are fighting with each other within in a mix because they are occupying the same frequency range it will create different effects depending on where in the spectrum the clashing is happening. But basically you will not be able to hear your element clearly or get it to stand out in your mix because there is too much going on. just keep listening, eventually when it happens you will know. learn to trust your ears. Over time they will become more discerning also.

Check for insert effects within the plugin. If your using M1 turn them off as they sound terrible.
@georgek3627
4 жыл бұрын
@@itsleejames I know about them, I have them off always, I think it’s to do with chord inversions, some sound better than other, also to do with octaves, some have more nasty frequencies, basically you need to structure your chords correctly, but for some reason I just can’t get it right, but thank you so much for your tip :)
