It is now Feb 7th, 2024. I want to do a good, reasonable Video conference setup on my iPad Pro. (Camera and mic). What are your current suggestions, and the links to buy the products so you get credit from Amazon ? I have had a hard time seeing anything where you can do an external mic AND an external camera simultaneously. Thank you

The Zoom app is changing all the time. But, at one point I found that I needed to use the manual controls on the edge of my iPad instead of the screen controls. Zoom may have fixed this since then, but they have not fixed the apps tremendous overuse of battery power as on January 2023.

Hi Patrick, thanks for this video. Did you experience any issues connecting the rode videomicro or Bluetooth mics to the iPad Pro? The cable that came with the videomicro did not work for me. After some research online I bought a SC7 cable from Rode that has TRS to TRRS connection but am still unable to get any audio though to the IPad Pro.. Perhaps the problem is the Insta 360 adapter? Any ideas?
@PatrickRambles
3 жыл бұрын
Hey! No, for me it works fine with the Insta360 adapter. You do need that TRS to TRSS cable for use with mobile devices but I'm surprised it still doesn't work for you.
@tvdw4055
3 жыл бұрын
@@PatrickRambles Did you check with the Rode videomicro separately as well? Can you confirm that? I read on an Amazon review of the 360 mic adapter that it only works for powered mics. Perhaps that is the issue I’m having.

For “full cowboy”, how about connecting a DSLR camera with professional lens to the iPad to get truly awesome video that has real bokeh? Sure the latest iPad Pro’s rear built-in cam is already pretty good, but remember, you’re talking ridiculous full cowboy. In fact, that’s precisely what I was searching but found only this video, which almost went there. I believe the key element would be a USB-A to USB-C adapter for an HDMI-USB converter, as most are not natively USB-C. Curious how it’ll work.
@PatrickRambles
2 жыл бұрын
Hey there. That's not going to work. First of all, there are plenty of USB C hubs with HDMI or USB C to HDMI dongles, so there's not need to revert to usb A solutions. More importantly though, the iPad does not support external Webcams or DSLRs. Even with the camera connection kit you can only transfer photos and videos to your iPad, it won't actually let you use the camera as an external source. I use my mirrorless cameras as Webcams on my Mac setups but to use those via HDMI, you will need a capture card like an Elgato Camlink or a switcher like the Atem Mini, which has a capture card built in. In other words, it's not about connecting the camera to the iPad, it's about translating the signal. The latter is something the iPad Pro simply won't do.
@khc8800
2 жыл бұрын
That's what I'm talking about though - HDMI-USB converter, also known as capture card like the Elgato Camlink. Mine in particular is the Furui USB 3.0 capable of 1080p @60FPS, which was amazing lower price than the Elgato but bigger brick, which is fine because it sits on the desk instead of hang from the USB port. Maybe unwieldy, yes, but curious if the mobile Zoom app in iPadOS would take it as video source. The RØDE Wireless II also piggybacks onto the DSLR, so audio and video is a single HDMI signal coming through the converter to the iPad. Various optional lens can then make it an oddly flexible Zoom experience. No?

The problem is with the iPad. It will not recognize the camera.

Great video Patrick. However, plugging the Videomicro into the USB-C port of the iPad makes it impossible to hear the other participants on a call. Apparently there is no way of setting up audio-in and audio-out separately in iOS at this point. I was wondering if you have found a solution; or did you forget to mention this? Unfortunately, I did find out about this after buying the microphone. Of course, if you buy the Rode Video Mic Go 2, you'd be able to plug-in a set of headphones while you're using USB-C for audio input.
@PatrickRambles

@@PatrickRambles I believe you. No offence. After experiencing that it wasn't as straightforward I did a little bit of digging because I needed to find out if I was somehow doing something wrong. Almost every video that talks about hooking up an external mic to an iPad for the purpose of videoconferencing has a handful of comments corroborating that selecting separate audio inputs and outputs is not possible. It seems to be unclear if that's an iOS level issue or at an application level.
@PatrickRambles

I'm not sure. I will test it again, you've got my word. KZitem is a side thing for me so I don't always have time. The only thing I can think of is changes in iPadOS updates. They aren't always for the better.
