The platypreserves are designed so that you can easily squeeze all the air out of the bottle, so they actually keep wine really well. Some winos I know use them at home to keep wine if they don't finish a bottle. I've kept wine in one for a week before.

Love seeing the couples video! Quick question on the Etherlight Xtreme or a higher R-value pad in the summer: Do you see any detriment to using a higher R-value in the summer if it's your lightest weight sleeping pad? Ie- would you sweat a lot more or is it purely that most higher R-value pads weigh more?
@natea1042
3 жыл бұрын
If I may chime in, the higher the R-value the more difficult it is for your body heat to transfer through the pad into the ground and air beneath you. The importance of the R-value measurement isnt really about being too hot but too cold because the ground is your primary source for heat loss which can kill you when the temperatures really drop. This is why a pad like the Thermarest X-therm is advertised as a 4-season pad and not solely a winter pad. To add more to this point most heavy super comfy car camping mats that use lots of foam, and of course your home mattress, have much greater thermal insulating properties than any air pad on the market. So yes, you can easily use a high R-value pad, like an Ether Extreme or X-Therm and still be quite comfortable in the warm months. Will you sleep warmer than if you were on a pad with no insulation? Yes, but like you adjust at home from winter to summer you'll merely adjust your sleeping bag and/or clothing to compensate. As far as sweat goes, in summer this can be a problem on any air pad regardless of insulation rating because the material they're made from doesnt allow your skin to breath. Just make sure to sleep on top of some fabric whether its on an open quilt/sleeping bag or a fabric liner and avoid sleeping directly on the pad with your bare skin.
@JustinOutdoors
3 жыл бұрын
Nate nailed the answer! The 'R' in r-value stands for resistance - so the r-value measures how well the pad resists the ground sucking heat out of you. Using a higher r-value pad in summer will result in more heat being trapped within your sleep system but you can adjust, like nate said, by allowing more heat to be dumped to the air by wearing less layers or having a cooler sleeping bag/quilt.
