Very helpful. As a beginner, not knowing how to mix colors is a big obstacle. As a side note, and since I've watched several other videos in this subject, I've noticed some artists recommend different sets of primay colors and some add the primaries Magenta (Quinacridon) and Cyan Blue in order to be able to mix colors like vibrant pinks, turquoise blue and vivid greens.

I loved this, as an ex beautician I’m very familiar with, primary , tertiary ect... What I don’t understand is why “colorist” painters don’t like using black. I think it can come in handy especially if your out of a primary . I just wish they’d use the red / orange to cancel out the red but that’s where you heed green so, no matter what I color my hair with, it’s RED! 😂😂😂. But this was so nicely explained I really enjoyed it. A refresher course is always great Thank You 💯💯👌❤️

Haha! I guess red was just meant to be! I'm also a big fan of using black; as long as you're smart about your portioning it can be timely and useful :)

I have wanted to paint for years. I sit my daycare kids down with paints and a canvas about once a month, but never have time to sit down myself. BUT....I am going on vacation in a month and am determined to make time to paint. I buy cheap packages of brushes for "My kids" and want to get 3 or 4 for myself. What 3 or 4 do you recommend for starting out? I am in love with the fan brush, but should it be one I purchase right away? But being realistic, will I use it very much? By the way....my older kids LOVE your videos and we had a big kid day on a Saturday and painted along with one of your videos. 😊 Thank you.

Thank you so much for sharing the videos with the kids! In regards to which brushes to get, I would recommend picking up a package of "Artists Loft" brushes. They are really affordable and have a good selection. While the fan brush can be a lot of fun I don't personally tend to use it too frequently but we all have our own methods :) Wishing you the best!

LMAO @ the Bread ! Ryan I just love how real you are hahaha! You make learning fun. I have a big colour wheel that explains the primary colours, secondary and tertiary then the variants as you explained it plus like 50 shades of grey. ;-) LOL This was a really great and helpful video Ryan. Thank you for explaining all of this. If I could I would ask you to be my teacher in art. LOL I am in Canada though so that would be very tricky. LOL

@RyanORourkeArtist

Great question! I also find that cadmium yellow is more opaque. It's also slightly brighter and less earthy. With that said they are quite close and I often find myself accidentally purchasing cadmium yellow instead. I like how it mixes with the other primaries. Hope that helps!

This was very basic, but I am sure there is more to it than this. I want to make a very specific brightish pink - peach and none of these colours no matter how much you mix them will be bright enough. I think you are holding back some information.

@@RyanORourkeArtist the primary colours aren’t digital, that’s literally how laser printers work, plus this just wouldn’t work with markers, or any type of ink, blue and red just give you mud
