3:14 You can hold "V" to snap to vertexes/vertices, like you held X (Snap to grid) when you want to align things like this correctly.

Hey mike, I learned a little bit of maya a few months back by watching your tutorials, however I switched to blender meanwhile and quite honestly I find it such a much more friendly enviroment and very powerfull. Hotkeys once you have a bit of muscle memory goes nice and fast have you tried a bit of blender yourself? with 2.8 around the corner.

Would it be possible to create a 3D model of a ship using the ships fire plan (images of fire plans can be seen on Google)? They're basically a simplified version of blueprints which are used to indicate the locations of on-board fire and safety equipment.

Hey Mike, do you ever show advance techniques that are perhaps a little less manual? I see you often position things manually or using very destructible workflow. I am just wondering if you could show some more modular procedural techniques for modelling in Maya
@MHTutorials3D

I have used procedural techniques in many of my videos, This video is more for beginners

@@MHTutorials3D Yeah I have seen a few of your tutorials but all seem to cater for beginners I think. I cant see many videos show casing Complex systems like in Blender Max or Houdini. I am now learning Maya for work reasons but find little sources on the subject

@@hectorescobar9450 Yes, for the most part I do tailor towards beginners as there are a lot more beginners than pros. And typically pros don't need my help.

Mike Hermes I’m sure there are many pros going from different software to Maya in hope to find advance tutoring or intermediate artist looking to push things to the next level : ) but fair enough.

Mike, I'd recommend fixing the normals by hardening the edges on the top of the roof

haha no I don't mean normal maps, i mean geometrical normals, the hardening of certain edges to display the shading a little better on the viewport (of course this would help for baking if ever you were inclined to do so) but it's generally good practice to do it while modelling, it's also more... pleasing to look at for the viewers
@tom_paul_3d

it can be accessed by hitting shift right click and hold after selecting an edge, then soften/harden edge, if done correctly it should get rid of that normal artefact

Great tutorial as always, Mike. Thank you very much. I have a little request - please can you do a tutorial on how to animate a fishing cast net in Maya? With emphasis on the casting, landing in water and pulling up if possible Thanks.

That is a pretty tall order and involves a lot of moving parts. Let me give it some thought and I will see whether I can make that work or not, ok ?

i have a question relating the dimensions of the house in general - if i want to model more than one house and make a whole scene, should i change the settings of the grid because by default they are quite small and i dont think that the scene would actually look realistic because of the proportions that i would work with. i hope it makes sense what i just said. thank u in advance
@MHTutorials3D

Whether your grid is set to cm or meters will not change the relative distance between things. Scale and overall proportions matter most
