Because of this video, I got the confidence to use LinkedIn to network with some of my connections. I got 2 messages back within 3 days and have meetings up with both connections ALL THANKS TO THIS VIDEO. When I say 2 messages back, I mean 2 messages back from partners from 2 top tier firms. Thank you so much for the subtle yet effective push that this video gave!!

Great content as always Neel! Just an FYI, I'm sure with you drawing upon your own experience from undergrad days is great but all of this information is very much applicable to grad school too. The recruitment might vary but general ethos for networking would remain the same. You're ahead of the curve. Make the best of it.

Hi Neel. Really appreciate the initiative that you guys have taken. I am also an engg undergrad with 2 years of work experience in an investment bank. Do you think it's advisable to apply to MBB directly with risk experience (without a grad degree)?
@neelandrohit6490
4 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the hiring tendencies of how the firms hire where you are. For example, in Europe, companies frequently hire people who have a master's degree. But in the US, that's a bit more rare I'd advise that you try to get in contact with people from the firms you're interested in (using the advice in this video!) and see what they think

Hey, great video! I want to discuss the point that you raised about limiting the number of leads. As you're obviously aware, there's a conversion rate at every stage that works against you (requests to connections to chat to call). So, wouldn't you be prudential to be cognizant of this while building the top of your funnel? I'm completely new to this so my perspective might be skewed as well. Looking forward to hearing your opinion!
@neelandrohit6490

It's an ongoing process, ya know. So, if you reach out to let's say 10 people, and none get back to you - feel free to reach out to more! But let's say you hit the jackpot and the first 5 or 6 reach out to you and you have good conversations / get your questions answered. At that point, there'd be no real reason to reach out to more people within that company / office, unless there were somethings you still wanted to ask about or specific people you were dying to talk to. But of course, ^those numbers are completely made up. I just mean to say, it can be detrimental to reach out to tooooo many people. Consultants talk and will find out

Thanks for such a good video @neel. It was helpful. However I sometimes struggle with things to ask about when I reach out to people. Any advice on what I could ask or what consultants like to hear??
@neelandrohit6490
3 жыл бұрын
Neel here - I don't think it'd be useful for me to tell you what to ask. And there's nothing that consultants would like to hear. The point of the call is not for you to "please" them or to ask the right series of questions. Instead, you should only ask questions that you genuinely care about learning the answer to. That way, you only reach out to people who you think you'd actually find interesting. Otherwise, the other person will be able to tell you are just "going through the motions" and talking to them because that's what you think you need to do to get into consulting

Hi Neel/Rohit, Great video, as always! I just wanted to know something... I've been trying to actively reach out and network with people in the line of industry I'm interested in. But nobody accepts my LinkedIn connection requests or reads my messages, even though I try to frame them exactly based on what you mentioned in this video. I just wanted to know what I could do to improve the situation in this case. It's very disappointing to send hundreds of tailor made messages/connection requests to people and not have a single one accepted. TIA!
@neelandrohit6490
3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree man - we're glad to hear you're hustling, but sorry about the lack of results. I'd go back to a specific question I ask myself when reaching out to people: "Is the message I'm about to send a message that I myself would respond to if someone else sent it to me?" And maybe also see what your friends / colleagues think about the messages you send? They could have good insights considering they actually know you as well

Hi Neel, I used to ask for an intro call after someone accepts my invite, which resulted in only 5% acceptance rate & most of them just ignored. So I'm thinking that I should start by asking some questions (should I do this or that) as it will be easy for them to just choose one. And after 4-5 healthy questions I should proceed for a call. What do yo think about this?
@neelandrohit6490
3 жыл бұрын
Some thoughts (from Neel): 1). There is no number of "healthy" questions you need to ask someone before you can ask for a call - the point of the call itself will be to get a lot of those questions answered 2). Part of being able to get someone on the phone is building a genuine connection with them (e.g. relating to something about their past like their major, favorite sports, etc.) and acting in such a way that they think they might actually enjoy talking to you or have things in common with you. This could be part of why most might have ignored you after you asked for a call. 3). I like the format of question you brought up. It's always better to show you've done your research (rather than say, "What is consulting like?", say something that shows you know a bit by saying something like "I've heard A and B about consulting, but I've also heard opposite things about consulting. So I wanted to hear your opinion of it while getting to know more about you!"
