Starbucks barista here. Great explanations! With the way we enter the drinks in the register now, please say the name of the drink first!! Otherwise we have to remember all your modifications. So the order in which you order 😂 I would like a cappuccino Tall Decaf Nonfat Or I would like a Mocha Grande Almond milk No whipped cream Only half sweet But add one pump of hazelnut nut syrup. Think about if you reverse the order, we have to remember all if it before we can press the button for the drink you want and then enter all your modifications. Thank you!

When I was in college in the 90s and 00s, we had a Java City in the student union. My usual order was a large redeye (which they call an eye opener) with milk and raw sugar. Not that expensive at the time, easy to make, and kept me awake for class :)

This is the best video for ordering at Starbucks I watched so far. Thanks and just subscribed! I have one question. If I just want a black coffee, not Espresso, then I can add milk, sugar, etc myself, so I just say " Can I get a grande drip coffee?" Do I need to say what coffee I want, like Columbia, .....? I am not sure what other coffee available besides Expresso.
@CloudEnglish
5 жыл бұрын
Good question. Sometimes the drip coffee is only one type. Sometimes not. If there are varieties of drip coffee, day the variety you want as an adjective of drip coffee. Can I have a grande Pike Place drip coffee? In fact, you can also say it without “drip coffee”. The standard drip coffee at Starbucks is called Pike Place. “I’ll have a grande Pike”. That’s ok too.

At Starbucks you can also order a "Short". It's not on the menu but it is on the register. It is the "kids" size and cups used for single or doppio shots.

My first experience with Starbucks was standing in a long line listening to people speaking what seemed then like a foreign language. Vente caramel macchiato, Frappuccino, etc. I was lost! When it was my turn, I asked for “Just a Coffee”. The straight faced employee paused for a moment and said “Sir, if you want ‘Just a coffee’, go next door to McDonalds”! He never broke a smile and as I was caught off guard, with my friend’s help, I managed to order a caffeinated beverage. However after that moment, I vowed never to participate in Starbucks pretentious names, at least for the size of coffees. I have been at the counter and drive through many times where I have ordered a Large Coffee only to be answered with “ You mean a vente”. I respond, “No, a mean a large coffee”. This goes back and forth several more times before I say, “Please give me a Large Coffee or I will go next door to McDonalds” to which the Starbucks employee says “Yes Sir!! One Large Coffee coming right up!”

I was just thinking about what I wrote relative to my situation now. I now live in Spain where the concept of a tall, grande or venti coffee is nonexistent and not heard of. They call drip coffee “sock coffee” as I guess this is how drip was made once upon a time. Nobody less the international chains sell drip coffee. Here, you are lucky to get a cafe con leche or coffee with milk. An Americano is not understood by everyone and I am sure many waiters and bar tenders think you are crazy to water down an espresso… and they are right… it is nothing to be with a highly caffeinated drip coffee. So there are many days now that I would gladly order a “venti” if I could. Or better still, being Canadian , a Tim Horton’s Extra Large Double Double!!!
