You are such a mind reader! My co-teachers and I were just talking about how to re-arrange our classroom to be simpler for the kids and then voila! You do a video on exactly what we need! You have been an absolute Godsend throughout this, if not for your videos I would have been utterly lost. Sending a big thank you and a hug all the way from South Africa!

Thank you so much for this! I'm a homeschool mom who just discovered Google Classroom and I nearly ditched it for the exact reason of not being able to see the week at-a-glance. I had created a classroom for each subject and topics for each subsection. (Example: Writing, Grammar, Reading all in the Language Arts Class) but we quickly missed being able to see all subjects for the week and easily see what was left for ALL subjects. Organizing by weeks makes sense! That is how I have always done it with every other planner whether it was paper or digital. The second issue we came across was color coding the subjects. That was the reason we created new classes for each subject (allowing different colors) which I think did more harm than good, so I love the idea of emoji color coding!! I was able to do this straight from my Samsung smartphone rather than using the Emoji Copy thing (in case anyone was wondering - it's the same emojis) Your video has revived my excitement for Google Classroom for my middle schooler. 😍

Yeah Michelle! I love the video this week. By watching your video, I feel like I have my Google Classroom organized. I love how I can click on View all because I've been going through assignments through the classwork and that's been driving me crazy! Also , I have one mom who keeps asking me what assignments are still due. So now I can refer back to that page. And the emoji's! Oh my goodness! I'm loving it! Once again, Michelle ..thank you for your amazing videos! You are an incredible teacher and I'm thankful for learning something new each week with your videos. Have a great week!

I organize mine by subjects. However, for the next school year, I really like the idea of organizing by the weeks. I think this will help students that are absent find their work faster. I will also continue organizing by subjects (because I really like doing that) with a color coded system. Thanks for sharing! 🤗

You can also show your students on their view that there is the To Do list, and it's organized by week, as well as a subsection for Missing that also lists by due date by this week, last week, and "earlier".

I have a lot of material and I like to allow students their choice of assignment. I have never been able to fluidly do this in class until now and I will continue with Google once we finally (hopefully) go back to school. I will assign a group of assignments to guide students to find a topic to work on and use the topics as material and once they have visited chosen place they may upload their assignments. I like your topic being the week students are in, excellent, thanks for sharing. This whole distance learning is a process. lol I feel like after 4 months I do not feel as apprehensive about utilizing this app. I think you will be getting huge views here. Congrats on a concise and most excellent video.

I still want your tutorial! lol. And I have my classroom organized by week like yours. Seriously I'm looking for tutorial videos for students to help them use different google apps. It's has been a struggle because I just started using classroom and I learned that student view is different from my view.. Students are using different types of devices and depending on the device some of them are really struggling. Using slides, doc, even drive is difficult for some of them so a basics tutorial for students on all of the above would be amazing .

Thank you for the great tutorial! I am trying to find a way to organize assignments in the Google Classroom calendar so they show up like a schedule. For instance, I'd like the top assignment to be 8:00 SEL, the next to be 8:30 Math, etc. Is there a way to do this? I feel like it would be easier for my primary students to follow. Ultimately, I want the students to go directly to their calendar, everyday, and be able to immediately find the assignemnts/meetings in the order they will happen.

PSA To use emojis on a Windows computer in the Chrome browser, you can hold down the Windows button and then the period button for it to bring up an emoji board. Way easier than going to another website. There are probably other keyboard shortcuts in other browsers and Apple computers, but this is the one I use daily. I'd also highly encourage anyone who uses Classroom to use the Feedback option in there to leave the developers comments about improvements, like teachers being able to sort the To Review list better that Michelle mentioned in the video as an issue she made a workaround for with emojis (and my personal vendetta against not having an easy way to make repeating Assignments, but have to make each one individually with the Reuse Post option). So keep using Feedback for things that are onerous for teachers. This platform was made by developers, not teachers, and there is WAY more clicking than there needs to be, let's let them know how to make it better for the teachers by using the Feedback tool.
