Wow! I never thought about intentionally tire out the faster opponent. I do clinches a lot though to avoid getting kicked during my sparring practices against much faster teenagers. I am 57 and still new at sparring since it is unnatural for me at my old age to learn to spar. Your sparring tips are great. I need to apply them during sparring practices.

@@W1Taekwondo It is not easy to start learning TKD after 53. I do love the physical challenges plus it is great hanging out with the kids and teens. They make me smile non-stop during classes.

@@Trang-xq9fn Try out BJJ too. It's a lot easier for older people or people with injuries to train in.

The main strategy I used when facing faster and higher energy opponents was to let the time run, counter, and wait for them to tire out. Once their energy was gone, I still had most of my energy remaining and was able to go after them. Nice!

but is that even fighting anymore? I know Muhammad Ali did this first but where is the "actual fighting" if all you do is wait and trick your opponent to tire out. Also not all opponents tire out in Taekwondo, some are literally never ending supply of energizer bunnies.

@@DirtyFan2 TKD sparring is a game, not actual fighting. Aside from trying to tire out opponents, there are many other strategies to use. That example is just what worked for me often. I never met anyone who could keep their energy high after three 2 minute rounds.

I have my first championship in a week. I am learning lots of great tips from all your videos. THANKS for making these and sharing!
