From my experience when starting kitesurfing the waves are like a pain in the $ss. However after some time and practice you start to enjoy the waves and making them as a trampoline for the jumps. For those who start kitesurfing the main things are:
1) When approaching the wave - turn the front end of the board to the wave, not parallel.
2) Lift the front leg up and push the back one down a little.
3) Try to put your kite closer to 12 o'clock. It will give you vertical tension to push you up.
