I'm a female dev. Impostor syndrome is especially difficult when I'm also not part of the boys club. Something to be aware of. Thanks for this video!

Great video. I was recently promoted to senior eng at my company and feel imposter syndrome. Great way to frame looking at this very common aspect of SWE. This is a good reminder that attitude, and the willingness to absorb knowledge from the people around you is one of the most important skills that I should continue practicing.

I felt Imposter Syndrome for a long time(and still do at times!), it seemed most devs knew things I didn't and it seemed like I was stagnating in my career. I found that learning new skills and challenging myself by doing the hard things helped me to grow as a developer and fight back the feelings of inadequacy. To anyone out there struggling with Imposter Syndrome remember one thing, you're not alone. In complex fields like software development and computer science, if you're not feeling stupid, you're not growing. Every smart developer was a juniour once and nobody knows it all and that's one of the things I love about this field. Best of luck to anyone out there who's still struggling with Imposter Syndrome, please don't give up keep striving to do amazing things.

As a female in tech in the IAM and Arch side of things I feel imposter syndrome every single day. I am always the only female in my teams and departments. Thank you for this video and helping remind me that I need to take a step back to get help. Often I try to bull my way through projects instead of asking for help so I don't appear weak.

I tune in to your videos daily for a dose of motivation, especially after dropping my wife off at work. They do inspire me, but I also feel a twinge of frustration, especially when it comes to your productivity tips. I know the secret sauce is simply putting in four hours of focused work, but making it happen consistently is the real challenge. It's funny how the toughest problems often boil down to a simple recipe: dedication and patience. Now, with AI on the horizon, the pressure to excel is even higher. But hey, your videos keep reminding me of the basics: work hard and be patient. Thanks for that!

I will come back & watch this multiple times. I'm 25 years old go, js dev I have always felt I'm the stupid one around who doesn't know about many things & I'm not ready enough for the next big challenge. How I overcome my imposter syndrome is by spending 2 hours daily on focus learning & BUILDING stuff. It has somewhat helped me but I think this is what you get for staying in this field. This is a must watch video for everyone who feels like they don't belong to this field.

"trust that the people who put you in that position are setting you up for success" - not if those people don't know what they're talking about and tell you to "fake it till you make it" to address your imposter syndrome. Agree with your point that if we're surrounded by experts and great co-workers then we should have a growth mindset to learn from our peers, but there are situations where one has to realize the best option is to get the hell out.

This is really great, and I can attest to all of these working - assuming you are in a team where people are actually supportive and it’s a non-dysfunctional team. I’ve been in teams where the default behavior is looking for who to blame when things go wrong, and in such teams showing yourself as coverage might make you a target. The best solution of course is to leave such teams, but suppose that’s not an option for multiple reasons, how do you deal with imposter syndrome if it gets amplified by the toxic team you’re in?

100% I've worked at places where if you struggled and couldn't get something done. You were headed for the door. I've seen this more and more in the past 5-8 years. Many places are very mercenary-like and there isn't a lot of collaboration. So it's easy to feel this way. Nowadays, if you're blocked on a big important piece of work, ChatGPT or a co-worker will not help you. Do not admit you're stuck and quickly seek help by finding another dev, paying them, and getting help secretly. Sadly, this is the way a lot of companies are these days.

that productivity template is interesting and I already improve it a lot to fit my needs. It seems that it was quickly done to just to say that we "provide" a template. Anyway better then nothing! (EDIT) btw great video!

I feel imposter syndrome every time I interview. I’m interviewing right now at Meta and the Reddit and Leetcode threads make me feel incompetent, but I made it to finals.

It helps if you don't work in an enviroment where you have to brag and antagonize your coleagues. So you can admit when you don't know something, or need help. I guess working in the US company that replaces their lower performers, is a no-go if you're struggling with imposter syndrome.

Steve, i also think your viewers are 95% male because of other things you can't control Besides the skew in the software industry, you present as an Asian man, and you shouldn't do anything about that I'd be curious to see the different demographics on a Bukola video
