Love this episode Marie!! Imposter Syndrome has haunted me my entire life. I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve sabotaged my career success multiple times, despite having two Master’s Degrees, multiple certifications and several awards. I’ve sabotaged personal relationships and missed out on many blessings and opportunities. I have a good life, but I know I’m meant for so much more and capable of being so much more. My strategies to overcome Imposter Syndrome include posting thank you notes from former clients on the inside doors of my kitchen cabinets. So there’s a little daily reminder. I’ve also started seeing a therapist. My go to mental reset phrase was inspired by a scene in the movie Black Panther. I say to myself, REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE!! YOU ARE ALEXIS SARAH-ANNE MILLER and you ALWAYS land on your feet. You got this.

Oh hell yes do I ever feel Like an imposter all the time! Starting my coaching business, wondering what people are thinking about me, questioning if I’m good enough, strong enough, can believe in myself long enough to turn this dream into a reality and not quit before the work is done! What helps is just what you said about the flashlight. I think, this isn’t about you, it’s about the people you want to help. My mantra is, “people are suffering and they need your help!” Much love beautiful Marie, you are my inspiration! ♥️♥️♥️

Yes! Impostor syndrome is so prevalent, we need to start handling it better, cause it wastes too much potential and drains life satisfaction. Love all this advice. Funny, in my online programme to overcome impostor syndrome that I created last year, I had very similar 6 steps, albeit not all the same. Definitely with you Marie on the shame - gotta share it with the people you trust, to dissolve it!!

Imposter/fraud feelers? I step back from my self and make a list of (my) accomplishments/abilities/obtained knowledge to build on (no matter simple/or small) as if I was talking to someone I know and love. Sometimes we forget just how many strengths we have because our flash light is to busy looking at what we have "yet" to "learn". Did we fall down as baby when learning to walk and tell our parents it was to hard? Fall off our bike the first time and tell our parents to sell it? No we kept seeing ourselves riding with our friends with our hands in the air! Favorite mantra - truly depends on the situation but basically I have been reminding myself this past year that I learn more in failing than it coming to me perfectly the first time. Find something that you KNOW YOU WILL FAIL AT - possibly something that will have great humor in it when you fail. Grab a friend (someone that you don't mind laughing at (errrr.... I mean "with") you and go do it!!!! Make it a blast!!! Embrace Failure! Failure is our greatest teacher. If you are willing to fail - then you will SOAR!!!

Yes! Chronic sufferer of Imposter Syndrome! I'm an artist. I taught PreK-8 art for 25 years. Every time I tried something new I thought "Now they'll see I'm just winging-it here. The kids will see through me and I'll get fired!" Now trying to build collectors and an art business, I'm still feeling like "Who am I? I'm not special." Helpful strategies: talking to myself in the third person and staying focused on my goals. My mantra (from Liz Gilbert's book "Big Magic"): "You do NOT need anyone's permission to lead a creative life!" Thanks, Marie! 🤗💕

I felt like a fraud during my senior year of high school when I got accepted into an art school in Seattle, when I was a great cellist in my high school's top orchestra, AND when I was doing crazy extracurricular activities that took up tons of my time! I let my "flashlight focus" shine on how insecure and tired I was AND let people's hateful words get the best of me. I should have shined my light on how HARD I was working and how willing I was to do my best. Now I'm 21 and looking back wishing I never let those things happen or let those people hurt me. I also understand how to never let it happen to me again :) thank you for the video and I'm so glad I'm able to share my "shame" safely :)

I knew about this but never felt the effect of it until recently...all I can say it's such a painful thing to have ...it feels like you are battling with yourself and at times you just become exhausted especially when you are not even aware of what is it that effects you. In my case my business for the first time grew and I just went into a totally mess. If it is not for my team it would be a different story. But thankful I have good team around. Thank you, i've admired you for several years...ever since i googled "Business woman" at a dark time in my life. Thank you for this video Marie it was very insightful. I regularly struggle with feeling like a fake. Working as a financial planner I'm always worried that I'm going to fuck up, not know something, look like an idiot etc. I beat myself up and it's counter-intuitive, it's like "Bryant how can you go out and help people with their finances and achieve financial freedom when your not there yet?" and I forget that I have at my disposal people who've been in the industry for years and have helped thousand's it's ok to not know everything, it's ok to say "I don't know, but I know someone who does." This is a good reminder that life is a journey.

But not too long because I wont stop, I know people who have achieved the most also started somewhere where they werent that brilliant. I am making it. I wont for sure let negativity or doubt or fear slow me down cause all of this is just making the process slowing down. I am going to make it. I achieve whatevet I want. I vibrate high. I am worldwide Legend, and a Legend never stops, a Legend dreams high and works without limits and reaches whatever She wants ! First of all, the new editing of the video is spot on, SO BEAUTIFUL. (I'm all inspired over here) Second of all, this message, as all your messages, is also on point. I've definitely felt like an impostor and really the only way out of it, for me at least, is the flashlight method you talked about: shifting the focus on the client. It's too easy to get stuck in our heads and let our minds take control. So when I start to feel down, I start taking action, that always shuts up my mind. Maybe a good mantra then could be borrowed from Nike "JUST DO IT!" ;)

I have always believed I am not a caring and loving wife, daughter, sister and friend. Simply I have always believed I suck at everything except when doing things for myself!! Selfish?! Naaà! I overcome this by getting feedback from my beloved ones and hearing their amazing impressions about me. I also ask my students for feedback which is 90% of the time POSITIVE. I also keep a journal which helps me dump all this rubbish from my head. I meditate and practise gratitude which help me be in a state of presence and positivity. 3 years ago I was at a birthday event of a sexy pinup shoot. 8 amazing, strong, gorgeous women . one brought this up and I was shocked. "I'm NOT the only who feels like a fraud?!?! THIS has a name?!?!" We discussed a LOT over brunch afterward. So to answer your question.....talk about it! (But mind Brene Brown's words and find only safe people to share it with....i.e. Not a narcissist that will use it as ammo....that was my life for a bit) Working on a secondary mantra that's specific to this....starts with HEY KADDY.....thanks for all the advice. I've got an overall feeling of insignificance, which some people sometimes pick up and reflect on me. I don't know if that counts as impostor syndrome, but my strategy is to try to isolate that feeling of unworthiness alone, like I imagine the situation and dive into the feeling, and then tell myself it's an illusion and that it's just a complex.

I’ve had some good successes in life but then all that backfires and I sent myself down on a spiral to lose everything. Down to a point where no success matters. Even quitting when I’m at the last stage of completing something and knowing it’s success and it will help me in life. (like college). Done this a lot in my life and never understood why I pull a rug on myself every time. Every time reset myself. I don’t think any of that would help tho.. been working on my self development and I never learn. The same thing happens all over again. I feel like a scammer, scamming myself and the people around me get burned in my scam too. That’s why I decided to push everyone away. I’m not doing anything good to myself or them so why would I try anymore? Fuck this shit… I’d rather be in pain alone than dragging everybody down with me. I guess that’s just who I am. I guess there’s no help for that. I wish it can be over soon, but don’t want to finish it myself. Just doesn’t feel right. I’m hoping for an accident that’s going to end it for me.. now that’s just a coward speaking how he wants to succeed in something, but he’s too scared. Too scared to end it all and even more scared to start it again. Why would I want to do such thing? I proved it to myself before. Whatever I start - it never ends well. So what’s the point? I’m tired. Just wanted someone to hear me. Sorry for putting it all on you, whoever is reading this, if anyone at all. Now wish my good luck.. to get struck by a lightning, or hit by a car, truck or a train. Drown in the sea or a river, get shot or stabbed, or something.. anything is welcome. Honestly that’s for the best. Thanks! Have a good day!
