I know that it sounds elementary, but, it is extremely important to label (as you did) your containers.

It is a great idea to find good deals on low cost food to store or if you don't have time, at least order some pre filled buckets of food. Great video. Keep up the good work.

By far the BEST video on packaging survival food. Awesome suggestions and recommendations. May I please ask to super-impose name and title on your video as you outline what to do. The close-captions are okay, but a little more would be awesome. Overall an A+ video. Thank you!

Good stuff- I just write directly on the bucket and I also add the cooking instructions and nutritional data and place it in top inside the bucket. Don’t forget spices. Plain oatmeal n rice suck. Y’all stay safe.

Just FYI, using desiccant packs with oxygen absorbers can reduce the ability of the oxygen absorbers to reduce oxygen levels. Also, it’s not recommended to use either oxygen absorbers or desiccant packs with sugar since it will lead to clumping.

My understanding as well, if you use both keep them widely separated, like dessicants on the bottom and O2 absorbers on the top.

Also I'd put more focus on proteins and especially fat. The more calory density - the better. Sugar is the last thing anyone needs for survival, but a cured pork belly or a jamon leg - that's the thing you'd really want to hold on to in case of global disaster.

Hi David l love the msk1 but the chopping though good really good, I still think you should make a ultimate survival hatchet that accelerates more on chopping but can still be able to do fine work and is easy to pack, because I love your work on the msk1 and hope you make more blades in the future, also I thank you so much for the tips love your vids. Live a long and heathy life god bless.

I have bay leaves, plastic bags and buckets. I live in an perpetually humid and warm environment, the tropics. I do what I can, and I'm doing it. If you let things get your way, you lose.

So why do you need food-grade buckets to store grains, seeds and sugar, especially when using plastic liner? I understand that overkill is always safer, but there is really absolutely no need for those buckets unless you store food in liquid and fermentable form. Refined sugar and seeds can be stored anywhere for almost indefinitely (for our purposes) as long as they are not wet.

Pro tip? Get a food safe storage bucket with screw off lids. Why? They come with pound on rubber sealed rims that take brute force to put on or remove. The containers shown in this video are not feasible if you plan to access Your food stores on a daily basis.

Ok so most of the foods you show in the video will be fine with normal pantry storage for 5 years in there normal packaging. And that is not the proper way to store bulk food for long periods of time. Anyone who has actually looked in to storing food for long periods of time should know that the first thing you buy is mylar bags not cheap plastic bags. Also they would know that twisting the bag and adding a zip tie is useless as oxigen will still get in. You always heat seal the mylar storage bags to keep oxigen out. And you only use O2 absorbers to take up the oxigen that is left in the "heat sealed" bag. I will also add that when most of those foods you have in the video are "stored properly" you get 30+ years not 5 years. I am currently using a bag of white rice that was stored in the late 90s now and you cant tell the difference. Please next time do a bit more research when doing videos you obviously know little about. I love your videos and recomend them often. but man you are way off on this one.
@SALVATl0N

True, but white rice is a bad example. You can easily store it in a regular 5 gallon bucket, and do nothing else.

Yeah, so many unreasonable things in this vid. I am an old fan of UST, but this idea is so unreasonable. From selecting what to store, to how to store it.

@moristar

Exactly what I was thinking. So much care for the thing that is less likely to spoil of all the things we eat :) Even if it gets soaked - it'll just clump and start to smell like a wet sock, but it will be as consumable as before.
