You say "it's not a $10,000 paint job" but honestly, I'd be VERY proud of this quality on my old 72 Gran Torino (albeit in its gold color). Beautiful work and Pete should be thrilled with how this turned out. Because in the end, you can take it somewhere and beat it with a money stick all you like, but the skill and the talent from all those years of experience speaks to the eyes regardless of what it whispers to the wallet. And for what it's worth I LIKE the color. It accentuates the body lines of the car really well.

BB, you have my vote as a Master of Your Craft. At 68 years old, I'm just beginning my journey in auto rustoration(s). I'm not very good at what I'm taking on. I have 2 Firebirds, 1 '77 Trans Am that looks like I got it at a scrap yard and 1 '78 Formula that's a rust bucket. They're definitely going to be a challenge, I'm not in the best shape, but looking forward to the work. I've been collecting parts etc. for the projects. Thanks for putting your videos (lessons) on KZitem I've learned quite a few things to help me on this channel. Again, Thank you for your time end effort(s). Regards from North Alabama, Bert P.S. I'll keep watching🙂

What people don't understand is that the paint that is on this Torino now is in a different universe in both looks and durability than the paint it rolled out of the factory with. The factory paint on 60s and 70s cars wasn't much better than what people get out of spray cans these days. The old Torino looks great Billy. A few decals and some chrome is gonna really set that old school color off.

Have done a bunch of do it myself bodywork, since my Dad made me fix my 65 Mustang after hitting a telephone pole in 1970. Last did a driveway paint in 92. Not as good as you, but you are great to watch and learn from. I never know when to stop sanding, so its frustrating. I got my carpal tunnel from windsurfing, much more fun. Love to watch your vids. Trying to decide if I paint my hotrod, or carry it to Maaco for $1500, which sounds like a good way to go. Or spend $5-800 and do it in the driveway. What ya think. Yes, I have done hi tek paint booths for aircraft, and yes, you need a slow, laminar flow to remove particles from the painters breathing zone. Pita to set up. Do not recomend testing with burning smoke sticks on fully fueled fighters. Just saying... Love the Torino!

My dad paints cars in much the same way that you do. His jobs come out immaculate in the end. I spray nitrocellulose lacquer on guitars in the same kind of conditions. Just the same as fishing lures; they're designed to catch fishermen. Fancy paint booths are designed to impress painters, not customers.

Try and tell that to anyone who paints in their workshop. Clearcoat especially, seems to get everywhere, but in a booth, much less dirt and the overspray is extracted much quicker. I wish I could afford a proper spray booth.
