HOW TO PAINT A DOG PORTRAIT/ The German Shepherd with Suzanne Barrett Justis
Join me as I take you from start to finish, step by step through my painting process of painting a German Shepherd portrait in oil paints. This speed painting tutorial is suitable for beginner painters as well as the more advanced painter. The same techniques can also be applied to doing a dog portrait in acrylic paints. I will show you how I prepared the substrate, in this case a cradled wood panel , what brushes I am using and how to use them. I will go over the palette of colors used for this portrait of Schatzi the German Shepherd. I will show you how to create realistic pet portraits along with teaching you how to paint fur by layering paint.
Follow or paint along and learn my painting process of this original artwork. Whether you are a recreation painting enthusiast or an astute painting pupil, you should find this video extremely helpful and informative. Please feel free to ask any questions and leave them in the comment section and know I will get to the promptly.

one of the brush I used for the most was a Synthetic Shiraz pointed round or rigger, as well as two filberts, the number 5 and 8, I will also leave you the link to the brush here. It is a very versatile brush, and you can see that if was able to do everything I asked of it in this painting tutorial
