@Diane Seader I absolutely agree with you, I don’t think even looks good to do a base layer first and I would not dip my pencil in water. If the paper is good watercolor paper (not cardstock) it’s nice to color first with the dry pencil and then activate. I like this method the best, or my second favorite is to lay the pencil on a palette and pick up the color from there. 😊

There are sooo many fun ways to use these pencils. It really does depend on the paper, the situation, and the artist. Have you looked at the leaflet that is included with the Albrecht Durer pencils? Most of the tips I shared are featured there.

Hello, I like the idea of using a base watercolor layer; however, I've heard several artists say you should not wet the watercolor pencils, but instead either color a swatch on a paper palette and then lift the color like painting, or color on the dry paper on your design with the pencil and then activate the color with a little water. Also, do you know about the clear watercolor ground from Daniel Smith? You paint a layer over paper, and then it becomes like watercolor paper after it dries. It works really well

Absolutely correct! I did coloring like everyone at first. Then I wanted what I wanted and was merely tired of finding the book or image I wanted to tackle. I traced multiple images together. Then I was like.. let me try skipping the middleman and try my own lines. Learned to draw on accident. Kinda like the saying “Life is what happens when busy making other plans.” “Skills happen when you are busy having fun.”

What is the pencil case that you are using Jennifer? It looks much sturdier than the flimsy tray that it comes in. I have the 120 watercolor pencils I bought a while ago but hesitate to take it out and use, for fearing it all spilling everywhere and break the points!! Thank you in advance 😊
