Some incorrect information here. Frosting happens when the paint sprayed from the airbrush dries before hitting the surface of whatever you're painting. Can happen due to a combination of humidity and temperature. Using a retarder when thinning will help reduce frosting.

Tip 1. When you are cleaning your airbrush, increase the air pressure by ten to fifteen psi. Tip 2.use lint free scientific tissue wet with thinner to clean the inside of your paint cup and the outside of airbrush. 3. A 1:2 ratio of paint to thinner will help you achieve candy paint( and is my go to ratio in general) 4.apply photo etch parts with glue before you paint to ensure a strong hold( most hobby glues eat paint). 5. Use an explosion proof exhaust fan when painting with lacquer because the fumes are flammable( the fan is usually more powerful as well and will keep your environment fume free). 6. The distance you hold your part away from the spray will change the texture of the finished paint 7. Use a moisture trap as water will cause a splatter effect and ruin your finish( I do my painting near a fish tank so I use one on my tank and my gun) 8. Make sure you use the rapid drying thinner for metallic colors or the metal flakes will sink into the paint and effect the metallic look 9. Always use the slower drying thinner for non-metallic colors to ensure a perfect finish 10. Always use a static free brush on your parts to get rid of the static electric buildup from sanding that will attract dust to your paint job

Have to be careful sometimes though, there is a difference between 'Dry' and 'Cured' If you plan on masking, weathering, or other surface modification, if you don't let the paint cure enough, you can run the risk of the primer or other paint layers lifting. Also, Drying/Curing time will depend on if you are using Lacquer, Enamel, Acrylic, or Oil. I would also be careful using thinners right on the plastic parts for removing paint, especially enamel, that can make your parts brittle and shatter. Great videos btw, looking great.

Loving the tutorials!! A couple of questions if that’s cool? 1) How do you decide where to add the custom panel lines? 2) Do you always panel line on white Gundams in black panel liner? If not, how do you decide what colour to panel line in? 3) How do you decide when to add weathering? Your tips would be greatly appreciated!! 😃
@StudioGundam

Hi! 1. I decide where to add based on the part itself, if it's blank, I wanna add details. And the color of the panel line should fits your theme! So you should decide yourself what color it will be :) and weathering itself please add according to logic, obviously on the legs will have more and then slowly reduced to when you're at the top! Hope that helps bro!

great tutorial bro! tips are on point. from my experience, spraying gloss top coat is very different from how i spray matte top coats. if you want that glossy top coat you have to spray it wet, if not it will get grainy and will require more layers to get a mirror finish. this will save you the polishing and sanding step that is common when you 'dust' it on. learned it from spraying cars where a gloss finish is almost always desired.

Be careful when cleaning by closing the front of the airbrush and then pulling the trigger. For airbrushes that are of poor quality, they may cause hardening and clogging of the trigger because thinner and paint may blow back into the area around the trigger.

Good tutorial! From my experience can say that paint ratio heavily depends on type of paints and manufacturer. Personally, I use GW(citadel) and Vallejo paints, cause I came to gunpla hobby from Warhammer, and more used for those brands, and those paints quite thicker than Tamiya in general. But they got an "air" line of paints specially for airbrushes, but still IMHO they may use a bit thinner. So you need to try to understand, as the author says)

Define markers. Sharpies? Ink markers? Paint markers? In my experience, paint markers like Gundam Markers are made to dry quickly, so it’s very hard to get even finished since you need to apply it in strokes. They’re much more suited to be used for small details.

@animepabu5526

Makes sense since if you did it after it would rub away the paint. After sanding do a pre coat there’s a specific name for it but it allows you to see the imperfections and then you can sand them down. Once it’s all perfect and what not you then spray paint it with your paints. Although that’s what I’ve learned through watching a lot of videos. I’ve never actually painted before but that’s the process I would do with. If the paint is uneven or something then maybe sand it with a high grade sand paper like #3000? I may be completely wrong too btw ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

is it necessary to thin the spray primer? I see some people use the primer alone itself and thin the colors separately

Hello, been looking at your videos for a while, and can i get a tip from you and the viewers on the steps of customing? Do we Panel Line -> Surfacer -> Paint job or Surfacer -> panel lining -> paint job? And any good recommendation for an airbursh? Im a beginner that plans to use this particular airbrush for the long term, is Iwata eclipse can be used by an amateur like me or should i buy a cheaper one first?

I would say surfacer, paint, panel line, top coat :) iwata eclipse is good, if you can afford it go for it cause airbrushes rarely breaks and you can really go miles with it :)

When do I put the varnish and the thinner?

They are separate thing. Thinners are used to thin down the paint for easy uniform application. Varnish I think you mean would be the top coat is to protect the surface :)
