Time lapse of painting a lion in oils from start to finish using multiple layers. It is important to work from general to specific. Do not add fine detail too early. Start too dark - the initial colours should be that of the little shadows visible between the hair. Thin glazes are used between layers to add pure colour without white. Because oils are transparent the deeper layers are visible to an extent giving the fur a perception of depth that is very difficult to create in one layer.
