Loved this video. As a beginner with acrylics, I learned a lot about technique and just basic setup, how to begin a painting, etc. Thank you!!

I hope I can comment here. I just subscribed because I like your way, if you know what I mean? As a watercolorist I learned about the papertowel clouds loooong ago. We would wet the paper and, depending on the type of clouds wanted and how one felt, add a wash using color(s) you feel and make it sopping. Crumple up a papertowel, wait for the sheen to disappear and then dab and mush the dry papertowel onto the wet sky to create the "mashed potatoes" effect 😉. I'm no longer a watercolorist and I've made art with many other mediums, including acrylic. I did okay as a muralist, but I was awful at acrylics. I've been a silk painter now for just over 10 years and I find I use many, many other medium's techniques to get the best effects! Your piece came out cute 😍 Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiments!

I ended up painting over this piece, which is what I do if I don't LOVE the painting or if it's just for the purpose of a demo.

My only advice to you is that you are trying to do abstract art but you are using your left brain as I can see your thoughts are all logical. You need to try and get your right brain engaged as the two pieces of abstract art I saw follow a formula so you are loosing spontaenity. If I were you I would forget all these rules. But abstraction is the hardest art to do as it is all to do with how you are feeling and what is inside of you. I hope you take my comments with good faith. I realise its impossible to paint and teach. And you are doing a great job teaching people who want to paint for personal fun. I personally think people are moving away from abstraction as its becoming old and stale.

Who are you to give advice to a teacher who has painted abstract art for over 30 years. Andrea is an incredible teacher that knows what she is doing. Her art creations are incredible. I think you are way off on your comment about abstraction it is not old and stale and never will be because of creativity. Happy painting Mary!!

Thanks for commenting. It's pretty hard to teach if my thoughts are not logical. Goal of the video is to teach people how to paint, and I can't do that without talking and being in my right brain. I love right brain mode and it's where I like to hang out most!
