This is beautiful! The color combinations are so beautiful and ethereal…..

As I type this, I'm looking out the window of a rented cabin at over 5000' high in the Smokie Mountains in NC. The sun is rising, the mist is burning off, and it's a beautiful scene, just like this painting. I'm going to follow this tutorial and make a souvenir painting to remember our week here. I'll just need to add an extra range in the back and some nearby spruce trees sticking up. Thank you as always Diane! Sandy

Oh that’s so wonderful! What a lovely place to be right now, and I’m so glad you found that video to help you capture the view. Maybe you’ll share it on Facebook? Happy holidays!

Loving the layers of mountains. I lived in Germany and have traveled both the Rockies and the Appalachians once I moved back to the States. Now I live in flat lands of Ohio so this will be a great way to take a trip to the mountains through the paint brush. Thanks for the tutorial.

Hi Karen, thanks for your comment, so glad you enjoyed the video - I must do another mountain one soon. One of my most long abiding memories is the view of the alps from the other side of Lake Constance in Germany - I've never seen anything more beautiful than the sun setting behind the mountains and the different shades of violet of the mountain slopes. The Rockies were beautiful too, I was lucky to live there, but I think the Alps are lovelier! Happy New Year!

My 49 th. Our holiday appartement looks out at the mount blanc. So this mountain landscape was a good match. I liked watching and back home I will give it a try. Thanks for sharing. A good tip was to use that foundation yellow ( a forgot the name) in the sky because of not turning into green with blue. I think painting this landscape is certainly more relaxing than our hike today😅. Wim

That colour is Naples Yellow and it’s a very useful sky colour. Glad you enjoyed this and I hope you remember to paint it (have you recovered from the hike???)

Diane, you have taken me down memory lane today. Between the Rockies and the Black Forest in Germany I have to paint this. I love how your mist came together easily. I see the advantage of the water brush. Your mountains are beautiful with the subtle but pronounced layers. Thank you for another great video!

Aw, thanks Ann for that lovely comment. I do miss the mountains sometimes. We lived in Canmore in the Canadian Rockies for quite a while, and on the edge of Lake Constance in Germany, and both had these lovely veils of mountains in the distance. Must paint more of these!

I love this. Besides being a tutorial in beginning landscapes, you also taught and reinforced what we’ve learned in color mixing. I had never mixed a green before I began to follow you. Now I try to do that only and I am getting a bit more adventurous. Thank you, Diane.
