@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
Жыл бұрын
OK, so damage on black can be a tricky one and it does depend on the look you're wanting. You can either opt for just using your highlight colour and some metallic (washed with nuln) Or, you can go the Rhinox route I showed in this video. Brown actually works really well. It can give the impression of either rust or grime (depending on the tone you use) and you can still highlight it with your highlight colour to give that 3D effect

A little weathering can go a long way to making a model look a bit more lived in. Like it's been a part of the world for a while. It's also a great way to mask that the decals never seem to go on perfectly. Don't go overboard with weathering though. This is very much a less is more kind of technique in my experience. Too much will hide the nice smooth paint job you spend hours on.

Awesome content, what colour would you use on flat black from ScaleColor ? I will be happy to see a tutorial on how to paint some icy glowy energized effect on sword !
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
Жыл бұрын
Thanks man OK, so flat black is interesting because with it being so matte, you can actually get a non matte black to show on it. So, you could for example do scratches with Black Legion contrast over flat black and then highlight them with your highlight colour However, it could be too subtle for the effort and I usually opt for a brown to give the impression of grim build up. If you wanted to you could then paint a black scratch inside the brown line so give it an edge all round and then just pick one side to highlight. That works well too
@butter2278
Жыл бұрын
Awesome video! Really well explained - question on the chipping, have you ever used a similar highlight for the scratches on the chipping too? or does this make it stand out too much?
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
Жыл бұрын
Great question. And the answer is yes! You can indeed add highlights to your chipping and it looks awesome. I didn’t add any on this demo just because I didn’t want to make people feel it was necessary. Another thing you can do, is do scratches of just your highlight colour and that gives a good impression of light scuffs / grazes. This is just a very basic introduction, so have a play with it and have fun really 🙂

For red armour I’d stick with the same brown and silver to be honest. It’s dark enough to contrast without looking too cartoony. Black can be very overpowering if you’re not careful Why not paint up a tester shoulder pad and try it out? Much easier to strip just a single piece and a shoulder pad is still big enough to get a good feeling of if it’ll work or not

OK, so for your colour scheme I wouldn’t use black as it’ll be too strong looking. I’d go with a medium grey like Mechanicus or Eshin. And then use your highlight colours you’ve used elsewhere on the model. That should work fine.
